Neos is Seeking a Senior Database Administrator (Oracle/Azure SQL) for a long-term contract role with our client in Austin, TX.

Position is Hybrid - 3 days remote with 2 days (Mondays and Fridays) required to be onsite(Austin, TX 78751)

Description of Services
Enters codes to create production databases. Selects and enters codes of utility programs to monitor database performance, such as distribution of records and amount of available memory. Directs programmers and analysts to make changes to database management systems. Reviews and corrects programs. Answers user questions. Confers with coworkers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems and staff costs for making changes to databases. Modifies database programs to increase processing performance through performance tuning.
Provides assistance in the planning, development, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated database systems while ensuring that the conceptual and design phases of new applications are consistent with structural parameters within the database environment. Evaluates users' requests for new data elements and systems, incorporates them into the existing shared data environment, and provides technical assistance.
Coordinates the use of data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy, loads databases, and reorganizes databases as needed. Performs data modeling and prototyping. Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
Performs security recovery procedures. Determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements. Maintains the data dictionary, ensuring uniformity of definitions and standards. Monitors database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
Creates test database environments for application development, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures. Executes procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures. Assists with database security standards, disaster recovery procedures, installation of database software, database benchmarking, threshold testing, and selection of database management software.
Requires experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming. Knowledge of computer programming principles, systems design, database structures, database technologies, project control, cost estimating, and accessibility standards (EIR Accessibility).
Ensures that database administration interfaces and reporting capabilities comply with accessibility standards and provides support to users encountering EIR Accessibility issues.

The contractor role is for a Senior Database Administrator (Database Administrator III) and will perform advanced database administration tasks for databases supporting applications with complex data models, workflows, and reports.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist the team in creating and maintaining logical and physical data models.
- Support Full-stack Java applications running on HHSC cloud platforms (Azure/AWS) within an Agile (Scrum) environment.
- Migrate data from Oracle applications to Azure SQL schemas and collections.
- Optimize database performance before, during, and after migrations.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Implement monitoring solutions to track database health and performance metrics.
- Perform database tuning, indexing, customization, transformation, and data migrations/conversions.
- Perform installations, troubleshooting, upgrades, patching, user management, and database security.
- Implement disaster recovery, clustering, high availability, load balancing, backup, replication, purging, and archiving.
- Develop database policies and maintain data integrity, availability, and confidentiality.
- Work closely with the development team to create and maintain logical and physical data models with a primary focus on Oracle and Azure Microsoft SQL.
Convert Oracle Stored Procedures and Functions to Azure SQL.
Candidate Skills and Qualifications
Requirements
- 10 years database experience.
- 8 years experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL (or similar).
- 8 years experience with relational database administration (SQL Server, Oracle, or similar).
- 8 years experience in database design, analysis, and performance tuning.
- 8 years experience with database structures, data analysis, and performance tuning.
- 8 years experience designing enterprise applications and/or services.
- 8 years experience creating technical and functional design documentation.
- 8 years experience within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies (Scrum, for example).
- 8 years experience with multi-tier system/application development (SOA, Microservices, 3-Tier applications, for example).
Preferred Qualifications
- 8 years experience with large-volume databases, high availability, and disaster recovery infrastructure.
- 6 years experience with Microsoft Azure.
- 6 years ability to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Azure SQL.
- 3 years experience with DevOps technologies including CI/CD pipelines and build/deployment tools such as Git.
- 3 years experience in Java/J2EE Enterprise Development.
- 1 year Azure certification preferred.
- 1 year DBA Associate certification preferred.
