Job Description

Interim Project Accountant
3 -6 months
£400 - £500PD outside IR35
Immediate start

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Interim Project Accountant to join a growing finance function on a key remediation and stabilisation assignment.
This is a hands-on role suited to an accountant who is comfortable stepping into a fast-paced environment, identifying issues, bringing structure to existing processes and leaving behind a more robust and sustainable way of working.
You will work across a broad range of accounting activities, with particular focus on financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, cashbook and bank reconciliations, intercompany and wider finance projects.
Key Responsibilities • Review and reconcile financial statements across multiple entities

• Support statutory and year-end reporting processes and work closely with auditors

• Prepare, review and maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliations

• Investigate and resolve historic unreconciled balances and discrepancies

• Rebuild and maintain cashbook and bank reconciliation processes

• Identify and resolve issues across the wider ledger, including missing information, duplication and misallocated transactions

• Perform intercompany reconciliations across a multi-entity environment

• Investigate intercompany mismatches and ensure balances are appropriately aligned

• Support the development and implementation of improved finance processes and controls

• Assist with ad hoc accounting and finance projects as priorities change

• Produce clear, audit-ready documentation and ensure processes are sufficiently documented for handover to the permanent team

• Work collaboratively with the wider finance team, providing support and guidance where required

About You We are looking for an experienced accountant who can hit the ground running and operate effectively with limited supervision.
You will ideally have:
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or be QBE with equivalent experience

• Strong technical accounting fundamentals and a solid understanding of double-entry

• Strong experience across reconciliations, financial accounting and month-end processes

• Experience working across multiple entities

• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large volumes of data

• Previous experience within a remediation, clean-up, transformation or restructuring environment

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and resolve issues independently

• Excellent organisation and time-management skills

• The ability to communicate findings and solutions clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders

• Experience producing audit-ready work and dealing directly with auditors

• A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to work at pace

Experience within a project or contract-based business, including exposure to IFRS 15 / percentage-of-completion accounting, would be advantageous. ERP experience, particularly NetSuite, would also be beneficial.
The Opportunity This is not a traditional role-cover assignment. You will be brought in to make a tangible impact, improve the quality and control of the finance function and establish processes that can be maintained by the permanent team.
The role would suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems and bringing structure to a complex environment.
If you are immediately available or on a short notice period and have relevant interim experience, please get in touch for further information.
