Job Title: Mainframe Test Engineer

Location: Omaha, NE (5 Days Onsite)

Duration: 12+ Months

 

Role Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mainframe Tester to join our Quality Assurance team. You will design, develop, and execute automated and manual test cases for mainframe-based applications, ensuring reliability, performance, and compliance with business requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for mainframe (CICS, IMS, batch) and integrated applications.

• Execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing on mainframe systems (z/OS, DB2, COBOL, JCL).

• Analyze requirements and technical specifications to create comprehensive test plans, test cases, and traceability matrices.

• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to identify defects and ensure timely resolution.

• Validate batch jobs, file transfers, and database updates; verify JCL execution and ABEND handling.

• Maintain test data, environments, and documentation in accordance with QA standards.

• Report defects using tools such as Jira, ALM, or ServiceNow; track issues through resolution.

• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, contributing to sprint planning and retrospectives.

• Continuously improve test coverage, automation efficiency, and testing processes.

 

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mainframe testing (COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, VSAM).

• Strong understanding of mainframe architecture, batch processing, and online transaction systems.

• Proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries for test validation.

• Experience with defect tracking and test management tools (Jira, HP ALM, qTest, etc.).

• Familiarity with SDLC and Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

 

Education

• Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
