Job description

Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture Engineer

Location: London
Working pattern: 9:30am-5:30pm, with flexibility to meet business needs. Hybrid working is currently available for up to two days per week, subject to business requirements. This role also participates in an on-call rota and may require occasional calls outside standard hours to support a global team.

The opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture Engineer to help shape, secure and improve our technology environment. You'll work across private and public cloud infrastructure, supporting cloud transformation and ensuring our services are reliable, scalable and cost-effective.

Working closely with Platform Engineering, IT Operations and application teams, you'll develop robust infrastructure, automate routine work and help teams adopt cloud-based solutions. You'll also contribute to architecture decisions, incident resolution and business continuity planning.

What you'll do

  • Build, manage and improve cloud environments in line with security policies and best practices.
  • Support on-premises to cloud transformation, including assessing current technologies and planning migrations.
  • Maintain the performance, availability, scalability and security of infrastructure and applications.
  • Identify and resolve vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, deployment issues and service incidents.
  • Investigate root causes, document findings and implement preventative measures.
  • Automate infrastructure management and life cycle processes to improve consistency, compliance and efficiency.
  • Develop and document infrastructure standards, guidelines and guardrails across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Optimise cloud resource use, balancing performance with cost.
  • Work with technical teams to ensure systems meet business continuity and disaster recovery requirements, and that plans are tested regularly.
  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate solutions, monitor service levels and resolve escalated issues.
  • Share knowledge and support colleagues adopting new cloud initiatives.
  • Act as an escalation point for IT Operations and build effective relationships across a global technology team.

What you'll bring

  • At least five years' relevant experience, supported by a degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field-or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and automation for public cloud environments.
  • Experience assessing cloud environments for configuration drift and misconfiguration, and implementing automated remediation.
  • Experience with on-premises to cloud transformation.
  • Strong knowledge of information security practices.
  • Experience with private cloud and data centre technologies, such as VMware, Cisco UCS and Dell EMC.
  • Experience with private cloud networking technologies, such as Cisco ACI, F5 load balancing, Palo Alto Firewalls and SD-WAN.
  • Familiarity with Azure Migrate.

The following would also be useful: Microsoft Azure certifications; Windows Server and Active Directory; Linux; PowerShell; Kubernetes; Terraform; and experience working in a global organisation.
