Quick overview
Job description
Standard Nuclear is fueling America’s nuclear renaissance at industrial scale. Our mission is to deliver the essential building blocks of nuclear power—enabling cost-effective, safe, and secure energy for the world.
The Project Engineer in Richland supports the development and execution of an advanced fuel production project, including equipment delivery and installation, commissioning readiness, and project coordination activities at Standard Nuclear’s partner manufacturing site in Richland, WA. This role serves as Standard Nuclear’s on-site technical project contributor, supporting schedule tracking, action tracking, issue escalation, partner coordination, and execution visibility required to bring the operation online successfully.
This position will work closely with Standard Nuclear engineering, operations, project leadership, vendors, and Framatome site teams to help ensure process modules, equipment, utilities, documentation, installation activities, and commissioning requirements are aligned. This includes supporting the preparation, review, and implementation of manufacturing documentation including System Design Descriptions (SDDs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) documentation, and other programmatic requirements for a commercial fuel cycle facility.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on project engineer who can track timelines, coordinate technical stakeholders, identify and communicate risks, and maintain clear communication between Standard Nuclear and partner teams. This role requires strong organization, practical field judgment, and the ability to support installation and commissioning work in a complex technical environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Execution & Schedule Management
- Update the integrated project schedule to reflect equipment installation progress, module readiness, commissioning activities, and planned operational handoff.
- Prepare project planning inputs, schedule updates, and budget tracking information to support timely completion of established milestones.
- Monitor task dependencies, critical-path activities, emerging risks, and execution constraints; flag impacts to the project team.
- Keep action lists, issue logs, readiness checklists, risk registers, and status summaries accurate and up to date.
- Work with Standard Nuclear and partner-site personnel to align near-term work plans and daily or weekly priorities.
- Assess potential schedule delays, document their impacts, and bring forward issues requiring decisions or corrective action.
Installation & Commissioning Coordination
- Work alongside installation and commissioning teams to coordinate field activities involving production equipment, process modules, and associated systems.
- Verify and report the status of equipment deliveries, installation work, utilities, required documents, punch-list items, and commissioning prerequisites.
- Participate in site walkdowns, field verifications, readiness reviews, and planning for the shift from installation to commissioned operation.
- Document prerequisites, responsible parties, and follow-up actions needed to advance equipment and system readiness.
- Check field progress against applicable project, schedule, and safety requirements and elevate concerns when gaps are identified.
Partner & Site Interface
- Act as a day-to-day technical coordination contact for Standard Nuclear and Framatome personnel involved in installation and commissioning.
- Work with partner-site manufacturing, maintenance, facilities, safety, quality, and project personnel to coordinate required activities.
- Communicate technical requirements, project priorities, outstanding actions, and requests for decisions to the appropriate site contacts.
- Provide timely updates and clear follow-through on commitments between Standard Nuclear and partner teams.
- Identify misalignment among engineering documents, field conditions, partner expectations, and planned execution dates, and help close those gaps.
Technical Coordination
- Investigate equipment, installation, integration, and process questions with Standard Nuclear engineers and other technical specialists.
- Review and reconcile drawings, vendor equipment information, procedures, commissioning plans, and related technical submittals.
- Gather and organize technical input from operations, engineering, quality, EH&S, maintenance, facilities, vendors, and partner-site personnel.
- Convert engineering requirements and design information into actionable installation steps, field coordination needs, and execution inputs.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving technical issues found during installation, equipment testing, turnover, and commissioning.
Documentation, Readiness & Turnover
- Assemble and check installation records, commissioning forms, punch lists, turnover packages, and evidence of readiness for completeness.
- Help incorporate Standard Nuclear operating procedures and program requirements into the partner site’s manufacturing documentation and workflows.
- Maintain visibility of deficiencies, corrective actions, unresolved items, and required closeout evidence through completion.
- Review and organize current project records so installation, commissioning, and operations personnel can readily access the documents needed for turnover.
- Prepare inputs for operational readiness reviews, pre-startup verification activities, and final project closeout.
- Document field observations and lessons learned from installation and commissioning for use by Standard Nuclear technical and project teams.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant technical experience will be considered
- 3–7 years of experience in project engineering, manufacturing startup, commissioning, equipment installation, field engineering, industrial operations, or technical project execution
- Experience supporting project schedules, action trackers, risk registers, dependencies, issue escalation, and stakeholder communication
