The firm has specialist teams supporting clients across finance, housing, and local government. This opportunity sits within their well-established Local Authority Team, which works with councils across England and Wales to recover unpaid business rates, council tax, adult social care charges, and to resolve associated legal disputes.

The Opportunity

My client is seeking a Solicitor or experienced Litigator to join their highly regarded Local Authority Team. Acting for a substantial portfolio of local authority clients, the team provides specialist advice and representation in the recovery of disputed and complex debts. Their work covers proceedings in the Magistrates' Court, Valuation Tribunal, County Court, and the Chancery and Administrative Divisions of the High Court.

Over the past decade, the team has helped recover millions of pounds in public funds that may otherwise have been written off. They are recognised for their expertise in complex business rates mitigation schemes and in handling challenging disputes involving council tax, non-domestic rates, and adult social care.

The successful candidate will:

• Manage a varied caseload of litigated matters, including complex and high-value cases across a range of courts and tribunals, including appellate work.
• Provide clear, practical, and strategic legal advice to local authority clients.
• Achieve positive outcomes in technically challenging cases through sound legal analysis and effective problem-solving.
• Support and mentor junior colleagues, helping to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
• Play a key role in helping local authorities protect public funds and deliver essential public services.

About You

Applicants should ideally have:

• Experience in debt recovery litigation, civil litigation, insolvency, property litigation, public law, or another litigation-focused practice area. Candidates with strong transferable litigation skills who are looking to retrain are also encouraged to apply.
