Materials Engineer | £28,000 - £40,000 | Exeter


Are you a Materials Engineer with experience in composites, adhesives or non-metallic materials? We're working with a well-established engineering business that specialises in advanced materials testing and is looking to add a Materials Engineer to its growing technical team.


This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected organisation where you'll work on a wide variety of projects across multiple industries, developing your technical expertise in materials testing, analysis and project delivery.


The Role

As a Materials Engineer, you'll be involved in the full testing lifecycle, from specimen manufacture through to data analysis and technical reporting. Working within a close-knit engineering team, you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality testing programmes for a diverse customer base.


Key responsibilities include:

● Manufacturing composite and non-metallic test specimens using specialised equipment and techniques.

● Carrying out mechanical and thermal testing, including tensile, compression, fatigue and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA).

● Conducting destructive testing and analysing failure modes.

● Interpreting test data and producing detailed technical reports.

● Managing testing projects to meet customer deadlines and budgets.

● Acting as a technical point of contact for both internal teams and customers.

● Supporting continuous improvement and providing technical guidance where required.

About You


We're keen to speak with candidates who have:

● A degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.

● Industrial experience within composites, adhesives or non-metallic materials testing or manufacturing.

● Knowledge of BS EN ISO and ASTM material testing standards.

● Experience using mechanical, fatigue or thermal testing equipment would be advantageous.

● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Good project management and organisational abilities.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

● A practical, hands-on approach combined with strong attention to detail.

● £30,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
