Senior Commercial Loan Underwriter - Banking

Burke & Herbert Bank & Trust seeks a Senior Commercial Underwriter to lead analysis and structuring of complex commercial credit requests. In this role, you will evaluate borrower financials, cash flow, collateral, and risk, prepare clear credit presentations, and recommend terms within policy and regulatory standards. You will partner closely with relationship managers to design tailored financing solutions, support portfolio quality, monitor credit performance, and help maintain the bank's strong, community-focused lending culture and long-term client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and underwrite complex commercial credit requests within policy and regulatory standards.
• Analyze borrower financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and repayment capacity.
• Structure loan terms, covenants, and collateral packages to balance risk and client needs.
• Prepare clear, well-supported credit memoranda and recommendations for approval.
• Partner with relationship managers to deliver tailored financing solutions and support business development.
• Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and recommend mitigation actions.
• Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, banking regulations, and audit requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting processes, models, and credit standards.
