Job Description

Senior Commercial Credit Analyst – B2B Credit Risk

Location: San Francisco, CA | Seattle, WA | New York, NY
Work Arrangement: Primarily remote; candidates must be local to one of the above markets and available to work onsite as needed
Contract: 12-Month W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $85–$100/hour, depending on experience

Russell Tobin is partnering with a rapidly growing, innovative technology company to hire a Senior Commercial Credit Analyst for its Invoice-to-Cash organization.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced B2B credit professional who can evaluate complex commercial credit risk, make sound recommendations, and help shape a developing credit function within a fast-scaling technology environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform creditworthiness reviews for new customers and for existing customers requesting additional credit, applying our Credit Policy and risk tolerance thresholds and recommending credit limits, payment terms, prepayment, or other risk mitigation where appropriate
  • Review prospective customers and orders for indicators of fraud, such as attempts to purchase services with no intention of paying, and escalate or decline in line with our procedures
  • Review order release requests for existing customers with past due balances, weighing collection risk against the customer relationship and revenue opportunity, and communicate decisions and conditions clearly to Sales and Collections
  • Document every review, decision, and exception so that the credit file supports our collectibility assessment under ASC 606 and can be produced for internal and external auditors without rework
  • Monitor the existing customer base on an ongoing basis for changes in payment behavior, exposure, or public information that suggest increased risk, and raise concerns proactively to Collections and Invoice to Cash leadership
  • Track and report on credit review volume, turnaround time, exposure, and outcomes, and use that data to identify where reviews are adding friction without reducing risk
  • Review our current credit risk tolerances, policies, and procedures and recommend enhancements that allow credit to keep pace with the business, including where automation or AI tooling can take on routine reviews
  • Support internal and external audits and SOX testing related to credit, and help maintain the procedure documentation the team relies on
  • Share what you learn from reviews with Collections, Sales, and Deal Desk so that patterns in credit risk inform how we sell and how we collect

You may be a good fit if you

  • Experience performing commercial (business to business) credit reviews and making credit recommendations under a written credit policy
  • Ability to read and interpret company financial statements and third-party credit reports and translate them into a credit recommendation
  • Experience documenting credit decisions to a standard that internal or external auditors have relied on
  • Working understanding of how customer credit assessments support the collectibility requirement under ASC 606
  • Sound judgment in situations where protecting the company and enabling a sale point in different directions, and the ability to explain your reasoning to both a seller and an auditor
  • Clear, concise written communication, since most of your decisions will be delivered in writing to people outside of Finance
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets for exposure analysis and reporting

Strong candidates may also have:

  • 6 or more years of experience in commercial credit, credit risk, or a related accounts receivable role, ideally at a business to business software or consumption based company
  • Experience as a founding or early member of a credit team at a company that was growing quickly, including helping to stand up the policy, procedures, and tooling from the beginning
  • Experience identifying and preventing first-party or account-opening fraud in a business setting
  • Experience with an order hold and release process and with partnering directly with Sales on credit decisions
  • Experience with credit and collections platforms such as Tesorio, HighRadius, Billtrust, or Growfin, and with credit data providers such as Dun & Bradstreet, Moody''s, Experian, or Creditsafe
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Stripe, or an ERP such as NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP
  • Experience contributing to the design of a credit policy, scoring model, or risk tolerance framework, not only operating within one
  • Experience supporting SOX controls or audit requests in a credit or accounts receivable function
  • Comfort using AI tools in day to day work and interest in applying them to credit review and monitoring
  • Basic SQL for pulling your own data

Why This Role

This position offers the opportunity to join a rapidly scaling finance organization where credit is becoming an increasingly strategic capability. You’ll have significant ownership over day-to-day credit decisions while also helping influence the policies, processes, risk framework, and technology that support the function as it grows.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must be located in the San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City metropolitan area and be able to work onsite as business needs arise.
