Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension)

Hourly Rate: W2 $50-$70/hour



Overview:

We are seeking an AWS Data Engineer who will support our NYS client. This role will design, develop, and maintain scalable AWS-based data pipelines and an interim lakehouse supporting enterprise analytics, reporting, and operational data needs. The consultant will focus on CDC and streaming ingestion, ETL/ELT, source-to-target mapping, data quality, governance, and secure analytic data access for Data SMEs and technical stakeholders.


Duties:
  • Design and implement scalable data ingestion frameworks for batch, near real-time, and streaming data sources.
  • Develop Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions for incremental data movement and synchronization across enterprise systems.
  • Build and maintain streaming data pipelines supporting operational reporting and event-driven processing.
  • Integrate data from internal applications, AWS services, external vendors, and third-party platforms.
  • Design, build, and support an interim AWS lakehouse with raw, curated, and business-ready data layers.
  • Implement data partitioning, optimization, and lifecycle management strategies to improve performance and cost efficiency.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize reusable ETL and ELT pipelines using cloud-native technologies.
  • Implement orchestration and scheduling for automated data processing workflows.
  • Develop and maintain source-to-target mappings, transformation logic, business rules, and data definitions.
  • Support logical and physical data modeling for analytics, reporting, and operational use cases.
  • Document data lineage, metadata, mappings, and transformation processes to support governance and traceability.
  • Enable secure and efficient access to curated data assets for Data SMEs, analysts, reporting teams, and business users.
  • Implement data validation, monitoring, quality controls, and troubleshooting across ingestion and transformation pipelines.
  • Collaborate with data architects, application teams, analytics teams, and business stakeholders to deliver trusted data products.

Mandatory Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, or data warehouse development.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience developing cloud-native data solutions on AWS.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing ETL and ELT pipelines.
  • Experience developing Change Data Capture (CDC) and streaming data solutions.
  • Experience designing scalable batch, near real-time, and streaming data ingestion frameworks.
  • Experience developing source-to-target mappings and data transformation logic.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and analytical data models.
  • Experience with SQL, data transformation, workflow orchestration, and automated scheduling.
  • Experience implementing data validation, monitoring, data quality, metadata, and lineage controls.
  • Experience supporting analytics, reporting, business intelligence, and secure access to curated data assets.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with data architects, Data SMEs, analytics teams, application teams, and other stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience with modern data lake and lakehouse technologies.
  • Experience with AWS-native orchestration and workflow automation tools.
  • Familiarity with metadata management, data cataloging, and data governance solutions.
  • Experience working in large, complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders and source systems.
  • Experience optimizing analytical datasets and access patterns for business intelligence, dashboarding, and advanced analytics.
Educational & Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Engineering, or a related field.
  • AWS Certified Data Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification is preferred.
