Business and Reporting Analyst

Role Overview

Great opportunity to join Youth Justice in an ongoing role, based in Melbourne. Develop best practice for business analysis to deliver continuous improvement, transforming the reporting landscape and delivering business value.

Identify and respond to emerging trends and opportunities for business analysis, leading change to improve service performance and/or products to resolve major business analysis challenges.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is responsible for the statutory supervision of children and young people in the criminal justice system. The Youth Justice group provides programs and resources to assist young offenders to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offence related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, Youth Justice promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.

The Performance and Evaluation team within the System Performance and Workforce Support unit is responsible for generating analytical insights, monitoring service performance and outcomes, performance reporting and system planning to promote whole of system accountability and improve outcomes of young people and the community.

VPS4 role: $100,894 - $114,476 per year plus super.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high quality reporting, performance analytics, evidence and insights to support operational and strategic decision making across Youth Justice.
• Analyse complex data, identify trends and emerging risks, develop performance reporting products, and provide evidence based recommendations to improve outcomes for young people, staff and service delivery.
• Provide professional advice and leadership in business analysis to senior leadership and cross functional teams, leading departmental compliance and benefits realisation.
• Work flexibly across the Youth Justice Custodial Precincts to respond to operational requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop and maintain tools and dashboards using Power BI, SQL, Excel and Tableau.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience analysing large and complex datasets and producing high quality reporting products for operational and strategic decision making.
• Experience using reporting and visualisation tools such as Power BI, SQL, Excel and Tableau.
• Experience applying quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to generate evidence based insights and recommendations.
• Knowledge and understanding of analysing operational processes within a custodial environment, preferably with an understanding of the Youth Justice context.
• Qualification in Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Financial Analytics or similar, and/or a certification in Power BI, Tableau and Business Analysis is desirable.
• A current full driver's licence is required for travel to other offices within the department.
• A Working with Children Check (WWCC) must be obtained and maintained for the period of employment.
