Job description

TreQ accelerates the path to useful quantum computing by designing, deploying, and operating open-architecture quantum computing infrastructure that evolves as quantum technologies advance. Our team brings together engineers, operators, and builders who enjoy solving hard problems and working across disciplines.

We are shaping the future of quantum computing and as we expand, we are searching for a Director of Business Development to join our team. Based in Milton Park, Oxfordshire, this is a full time, permanent role. As TreQ’s Director of Business Development, your primary responsibility will be to turn our capabilities into revenue and durable commercial growth. You will own commercial strategy, market and customer development, partnerships, the commercial pipeline, and the customer-facing team, personally advancing priority opportunities while building the function.

You will directly report to the CEO and collaborate with our executive team.

As part of the working day, our Director of Business Development will:

  • Set commercial strategy and priorities, using market intelligence to focus customer, partner, and opportunity development
  • Own the customer pipeline from early engagement through qualification, solution development, proposal, negotiation, and close
  • Develop supplier, technology, and channel partnerships across the quantum and advanced computing ecosystem, alongside government relationships that expand TreQ’s opportunities
  • Build and lead sales engineering and the customer team, including customer success and forward engineering
  • Establish commercial processes, forecasts, and metrics that support sound decisions and coordinated delivery of customer commitments

You might be a fit if…

you know about:

  • Advanced computing architectures and their place in customers’ computing infrastructure
  • How complex and emerging technologies are evaluated, funded, purchased, and adopted
  • Enterprise and government procurement, including long sales cycles
  • Supplier and technology partnerships, channel models, and multiparty commercial arrangements

you have the skills and ability to:

  • Distinguish consequential opportunities from distractions
  • Engage customers and engineers with independent technical judgment
  • Build trusted relationships with executives, technical leaders, and government stakeholders
  • Shape viable commercial arrangements and negotiate complex agreements
  • Coordinate deals internally, aligning customer commitments with technical readiness and delivery capacity

you’ve had experiences like these:

  • Owning a broad commercial function in advanced computing or quantum technology
  • Finding and closing complex enterprise or government opportunities
  • Building markets and strategic partnerships around emerging technologies
  • Transitioning founder-led business development into an established function while remaining hands-on

you like:

  • Opening doors and discovering unmet customer needs
  • Going deep in technical conversations with customers and engineers
  • Doing the hands-on work while building a team
  • Working through difficult trade-offs with trusted colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have a background in high-performance computing (HPC), quantum, or other advanced computing infrastructure
  • You have an Engineering, computing, physics, or a related technical degree, or equivalent experience
  • You have experience developing business across international markets

For this role you need not:

  • Have a PhD
  • Be the deepest technical specialist in the room

We value practical engineering experience as much as formal academic credentials. People join TreQ from industry, national laboratories, startups, academia, and military service.

TreQ is a veteran-owned, woman-owned business and an equal opportunity employer. We hire based on capability, character, and the ability to contribute to our mission. If TreQ’s mission excites you but your experience doesn’t match every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply.

Additional Information:

This work requires close collaboration, trust, and rapid iteration, so most roles work primarily in person where our teams design, build, and operate systems together. Some hybrid flexibility may be available, though candidates should expect to spend the majority of their time on-site with teammates.

Export Control Work Authorisation Compliance

Some roles at TreQ involve access to technologies subject to export control laws in the United States, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions (including ITAR and EAR). Candidates for these roles must be eligible to access export-controlled technology without TreQ obtaining an export license. In accordance with applicable law, TreQ may also verify citizenship, immigration status, and the right to work where required. Certain roles may not be eligible for visa or export license sponsorship.
