Senior DevOps Engineer

6-Month Contract

London (Hybrid - 50% onsite)

Active SC Clearance Required

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join a high-profile programme supporting a critical national payment and financial infrastructure platform. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative engineering environment, helping to deliver, operate and continuously improve highly available, secure and resilient services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and enhancing a complex technology estate, driving automation, improving operational excellence, and contributing to the ongoing evolution of DevOps practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support, maintain and develop enhancements across a mission-critical platform.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineers and wider stakeholders.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and advise on technology roadmaps and future platform direction.
  • Manage and improve DevOps tooling, CI/CD pipelines and automation capabilities.
  • Ensure the safe promotion of code through environments and into production.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and promote DevOps and Agile best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery and operational readiness.
  • Support the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps.
  • Provide support for a 24/7 production environment, including participation in an on-call rota and out-of-hours releases where required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience supporting production environments, including out-of-hours support and release activities.
  • Strong experience with Kubernetes and/or OpenShift in on-premises environments.
  • Linux systems administration expertise within highly available production environments.
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly Jenkins.
  • Automation-first approach to software delivery and operational processes.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as ELK, Splunk, Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Demonstrable experience leading major incident management and driving service improvements.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
  • Security-focused mindset and experience working within regulated or secure environments.
  • Experience working with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS or GCP).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within financial services, payments, banking or other highly regulated environments.
  • Relevant certifications from Red Hat, Microsoft, Oracle, Kafka or similar vendors.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
