Junior Consultant - Digital Product Passports (DPP)
Quick Overview
Job Description
Experience: 1-3 years
Location: Remote, with occasional travel as required
Monk Spaces is looking for a Junior Consultant - Digital Product Passports (DPP) to work on Digital Product Passport, product traceability and product data projects for international clients.
The role sits at the intersection of sustainability, regulation, product data and technology. You will work directly with clients to understand their products, supply chains and existing data systems, collect and structure the information required for DPPs, and support their implementation with our technology partners.
This is a client-facing role. You will be responsible for coordinating with client teams and suppliers for data collection, identifying gaps in the information received, and following up to obtain the data required for project delivery.
This is not a software development role, but you should be comfortable with technology. You should understand concepts such as APIs, databases, structured data and system integrations, and be able to communicate effectively with software developers and technical teams.
This is a remote role, with occasional travel for client meetings, workshops, events or project requirements.
- Research and interpret Digital Product Passport requirements and related product regulations.
- Work directly with clients to understand their products, supply chains, processes and existing data systems.
- Own the data collection process for DPP projects, including preparing data requirements, coordinating with client teams and suppliers, tracking submissions and following up on missing information.
- Review collected data for completeness, consistency and quality and identify gaps that need to be resolved.
- Map product information across raw materials, components, suppliers, manufacturing processes and other relevant stages of the value chain.
- Develop DPP data structures, data fields and information frameworks for different products and sectors.
- Structure and validate product, material, sustainability and supply-chain data.
- Understand how relevant information is stored in client systems and how it needs to move between different systems and stakeholders.
- Translate regulatory and client requirements into functional and data requirements for DPP platforms.
- Work with technology partners and developers on APIs, data exchange and system integrations required for DPP implementation.
- Review and test DPP prototypes and implementations from a data, regulatory and functional perspective.
- Prepare technical documentation, implementation frameworks and client deliverables.
- Conduct client meetings and workshops and communicate technical and data requirements clearly.
- Track regulatory and technological developments related to Digital Product Passports.
- 1-3 years of relevant professional experience in product sustainability, sustainability technology, product compliance, supply-chain sustainability, traceability, product data, LCA, environmental consulting or a related field.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, environmental science, sustainability, supply chain, information systems, computer science or a related discipline.
- Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills. You should be comfortable conducting meetings, requesting information and following up with client teams independently.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and comfort working with large and structured datasets.
- A basic understanding of software systems and data architecture, including APIs, databases, data formats and system integrations.
- Ability to communicate with developers and understand technical discussions around how data is stored, transferred and displayed.
- Ability to understand relationships between products, components, materials, suppliers and sustainability information.
- High attention to detail and the ability to identify gaps and inconsistencies in data.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Ability to learn new regulations, technologies and technical concepts quickly.
- Ability to independently manage assigned workstreams and deadlines.
This is a technical product sustainability and technology role, not an ESG reporting role. Candidates whose experience is primarily in ESG reporting, sustainability disclosures, BRSR, GRI or similar reporting frameworks should not apply.
Prior exposure to any of the following would be useful:
- Digital Product Passports
- Product or supply-chain traceability
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
- Product compliance and EU product regulations
- Bill of Materials (BOM) and product/material databases
- REST APIs, JSON or SQL
- ERP, PLM or Product Information Management (PIM) systems
- QR codes, GS1 standards or other product identification systems
- Data mapping and system integrations
- Circular economy and product circularity requirements
Coding experience is useful but not required. We are looking for someone who understands technology well enough to work effectively between clients, sustainability teams and software developers.
Prior DPP implementation experience is also not mandatory. Digital Product Passports are an emerging area, and we are interested in candidates with strong adjacent experience who can quickly understand both the regulatory and technical aspects of DPP implementation.
Monk Spaces is a sustainability consultancy working with organisations in India and internationally on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), product sustainability, environmental compliance and emerging sustainability regulations.
Our Digital Product Passport work brings together product sustainability, regulatory requirements, supply-chain information and digital technology to help companies develop practical systems for product-level sustainability and traceability information.
