Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centres | London | Competitive Salary | Chartered / Near-Chartered | Data Centre Design Experience

YOUR NEW COMPANY

You'll be joining a large, growing global engineering team specialising in data centres and critical infrastructure . You'll work alongside architects, engineers and specialist consultants as part of an integrated design team, delivering projects for hyperscale cloud providers, colocation operators, telecoms, developers and major enterprise clients.

Based in London, you'll contribute to major projects across the UK and internationally, working on some of the most technically demanding data centre developments in the market. You'll be joining a team where technical development, shared learning and professional growth are built into the way projects are delivered.

YOUR NEW ROLE

You'll join an established mechanical engineering team with a clear pathway towards greater technical and leadership responsibility. You'll take ownership of mechanical design concepts for data centres, working across cooling, resilience, energy efficiency, water efficiency, commissioning and maintainability.

You'll coordinate design analysis and work closely with engineers from other disciplines to optimise systems and develop practical solutions. You'll oversee the production of mechanical models, drawings and specifications while developing your understanding of the wider multidisciplinary design process. You'll also begin taking responsibility for smaller projects, giving you the opportunity to build your client-management and team-leadership experience.

You'll work in a collaborative environment where you'll be encouraged to share ideas, learn from experienced engineers and contribute to the development of the wider Data Centre and Critical Systems offering. As your experience grows, you'll have the opportunity to take on greater project, client and technical leadership.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

You'll be a Chartered Engineer, or within approximately 6–12 months of achieving Chartered status, with a Building Services background through CIBSE or IMechE. You'll need experience across the data-centre project lifecycle, including mechanical design and construction stages, with a strong understanding of cooling strategies, resilience and Tier levels, PUE/WUE efficiency, and testing and commissioning.

You'll also need to be comfortable with the technical tools used to develop and optimise data-centre designs. Experience with IES energy modelling, Revit 3D modelling and familiarity with 6Sigma CFD for data-centre applications will be valuable. You'll also bring enough commercial awareness to plan resources, monitor project performance and contribute towards meeting financial targets.

Advantageous but not essential: experience working directly with hyperscale or colocation clients, together with broader exposure to complex mission-critical facilities. You'll be naturally inquisitive and interested in how emerging cooling technologies, increasing rack densities and changing client requirements are shaping the next generation of data-centre design.

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

You'll have access to a broad total-reward package alongside a career within a global employee-owned engineering practice. You'll receive competitive pay, Profit Share , private medical insurance, life assurance, accident insurance and income protection, alongside flexible benefits designed to support your health, wellbeing and individual circumstances.

You'll also have access to extensive learning and development opportunities, with the freedom to build your technical and leadership skills while working on major international data-centre projects. The employee-owned structure means you'll have a genuine stake in the wider success of the organisation while developing your career within a team that can offer both technical depth and long-term progression.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW

If you're a Chartered or near-Chartered Mechanical Building Services Engineer looking to take the next step in your data-centre career, apply directly or get in touch with David McLaughlin for a confidential conversation about the role. Applications through LinkedIn are also welcome.
