IT Desktop Support Engineer (On-Demand – Independent Contractor)

 Location: Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
 Engagement Type: On-demand / Independent Contractor
 Compensation: Hourly (1099 / contractor basis)
 Note: Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on client requests and site demand. No benefits provided.


Job Overview

We are seeking a flexible and reliable IT Desktop Support Engineer for an on-demand contractor role at a client site located in Carrefour de l’Estrie. The technician will provide hands-on end-user and onsite IT support as required.

This is a dispatch/on-call style role, where assignments are based on service requests and operational needs. Candidates must be comfortable with variable workloads and short-notice deployments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite desktop and laptop support for end users
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and basic network connectivity issues
  • Perform installation, configuration, and replacement of IT equipment
  • Support peripherals such as printers, docking stations, and AV devices
  • Handle basic network patching and connectivity tasks
  • Escalate complex technical issues to higher-level support teams when required
  • Maintain service quality and timely resolution of assigned tickets

Required Tools & Equipment (Mandatory)

Candidates must carry and maintain their own tools, including:

  • Laptop (for diagnostics and ticketing access)
  • Console cable
  • LAN/Ethernet cables
  • Screwdriver kit (basic IT toolkit)
  • RJ45 to USB adapter

Required Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience in IT Desktop Support / EUC Support / Field Support roles
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for Windows OS environments
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts (IP, connectivity, cabling)
  • Ability to work independently in onsite environments
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable working in an on-demand / flexible schedule model

  • This is a non-guaranteed hours contractor role
  • Work assignments will be provided based on client requirements
  • Candidate must be ready for onsite dispatch when needed
