The Role
As a Helpline Practitioner you will:
- Engage with a diverse range of service users, recognising individual needs, rights and circumstances.
- Provide expert safeguarding advice to carers, professionals and members of the public.
- Assess contacts and work alongside duty managers to determine appropriate action.
- Ensure referrals are processed and passed to relevant agencies within required timeframes.
- Accurately record detailed case information in line with Helpline procedures and safeguarding standards.
- Contribute to service evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Work in partnership with external agencies to support effective child protection.
- Promote equal opportunities, diversity and children's rights in all aspects of your work.
- Support colleagues and volunteers in delivering high-quality services.
Salary & Benefits
- Starting salary: £35,000
About You
We're looking for someone who combines professional expertise with empathy and sound judgement.
You will have:
- A relevant safeguarding qualification (social care, health, education, law enforcement, youth justice, youth work or counselling).
- Post-qualification experience with responsibility for safeguarding children or families.
- Up-to-date knowledge of childcare legislation, research and best practice.
- Proven ability to provide advice and support via telephone and in writing.
- Strong analytical skills - able to gather, assess and succinctly record key information.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
