About the role

The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building and maintaining scalable data platforms and pipelines that enable trusted analytics, reporting and data-driven decision-making across Engineers Australia. As a senior member of the Data & Analytics team, the role provides technical leadership, establishes engineering best practices, and ensures data solutions are secure, reliable, automated and fit for purpose. The role also supports key strategic initiatives, including the Digital Transformation Program, through expert data engineering and integration capability.

In this role you will:

• Design, build and maintain scalable, secure data pipelines, platforms and data models that support reporting, analytics and business decision-making.
• Lead data engineering best practices, including CI/CD, coding standards, automation, documentation and peer reviews.
• Ensure data quality, reliability and performance through monitoring, validation, optimisation and issue resolution.
• Support and mentor team members while contributing to the ongoing capability uplift of the Data & Analytics function.
• Manage BAU data operations, stakeholder requests and the delivery of reliable data services across the organisation.
• Lead data migration and integration activities for the Digital Transformation Program, including data cleansing, validation, cutover support and post-go-live stabilisation.

Here's what we're looking for:

• You are a hands-on senior engineer with strong SQL, Python and PySpark capability.
• You have deep experience building production-grade data pipelines and managing data quality at scale.
• You work effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders, translating data needs into practical engineering solutions.
• You value automation, repeatability, documentation and version-controlled processes.
• You take ownership of data integrity, platform stability, secure delivery and continuous improvement.
• You bring a mindset of engineering excellence and enjoy mentoring others.
