Job Description

Lead Data Engineer

Are you an experienced Lead Data Engineer looking to shape the future of a modern cloud data platform? This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing technology business where you'll provide technical leadership, define engineering best practices, and help build scalable, high-performing data solutions.

As a senior individual contributor, you'll act as the technical authority within the Data Engineering team, working closely with senior leadership to define architecture, improve platform performance, and mentor engineers. This role focuses on technical excellence rather than people management.

The Role

You'll be responsible for:

  • Leading the technical design and implementation of scalable data pipelines, warehouse models and transformations.
  • Owning the day-to-day technical direction of the cloud data platform, ensuring solutions are performant, reliable and cost-effective.
  • Defining engineering standards, code quality, CI/CD processes and best practices across the team.
  • Driving improvements in data quality, observability, monitoring and governance.
  • Providing technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
  • Working closely with Analytics, Data Science and Platform Engineering teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

About You

You'll bring:

  • Extensive experience in Data Engineering and modern cloud data platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Strong SQL expertise and experience with dbt or similar ELT tools.
  • Experience building and optimising scalable data pipelines and data warehouses.
  • Knowledge of AWS technologies such as Redshift, S3 and Athena.
  • Experience with Airflow, Fivetran or similar orchestration and integration tools.
  • Strong Linux/Unix and Bash scripting skills.
  • A solid understanding of data quality, governance, lineage and monitoring.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to influence technical direction across engineering teams.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid working with a collaborative London office.
  • The opportunity to shape a modern cloud data platform within a growing technology business.
  • Genuine technical ownership and career progression.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (increasing with service).
  • Private healthcare, dental cover, pension, life assurance and income protection.
  • 4pm finish every Friday.
  • Enhanced parental leave, Employee Assistance Programme, regular social events and a 150 home office allowance.

If you're passionate about designing scalable data platforms, mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence, we'd love to hear from you.
