Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced IBM i (iSeries/AS400) Modernization Solution Architect with strong expertise in RPG application development, retail supply chain business processes, and legacy application modernization. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical knowledge of IBM i platforms with a strong understanding of Order Management, Inventory, Warehouse Management, and Manufacturing systems, preferably within the toy manufacturing and retail industry.

The candidate will play a strategic role in modernizing legacy RPG applications, introducing RESTful APIs and modern web-based user experiences, and leveraging AI-powered modernization solutions such as IBM Bob Agentic AI.

Required Qualifications

·       10+ years of relevant IT experience, with substantial hands-on expertise in IBM i, RPG/RPGLE, CL, and DB2 for i.

·       Extensive experience developing, customizing, maintaining, and modernizing IBM i-based enterprise applications.

·       Strong functional understanding of Order Management, Inventory, Warehouse Management, Manufacturing, and Retail Supply Chain processes.

·       Proven experience converting fixed-format RPG to free-format RPG, including handling embedded business logic, program dependencies, database interactions, and regression testing.

·       Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, integration architectures, and web-based UI/UX principles.

·       Experience designing modernization solutions that integrate legacy IBM i systems with modern enterprise applications.

·       Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder engagement, and technical articulation skills.

·       Ability to provide independent architectural guidance, challenge conventional approaches, and demonstrate creative, out-of-the-box thinking.
