Position OverviewThe Software Engineer II works on the R&D Software Engineering Team in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, and is an on site Scrum team member who participates in all phases of the software development lifecycle for medical device software.
Responsibilities- Participate in all Scrum events and manage the product backlog to deliver working software increments.
- Define and refine features, user stories, and acceptance criteria, ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs.
- Write and maintain clear, testable Software Requirements Specifications (SRS).
- Specify and design solutions for user stories to deliver customer value.
- Develop, refactor, debug, unit test and perform code reviews in accordance with team standards.
- Define test strategies, tools and mocks, review test cases, develop automated tests, and execute manual tests.
- Raise, assess and fix defects to maintain product quality.
- Contribute to engineering documentation (requirements, risk, design, testing, release) and support delivery in a regulated medical device environment.
- Software Engineering or Computer Science degree.
- 6+ years of full SDLC experience.
- Strong analytical and communication skills to interpret complex business and technical information.
- Expertise in writing clear, structured, testable software specifications using Gherkin and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
- Experience with AI assisted development tools and critical assessment of their outputs.
- Proficiency with C#, .NET, WCF, REST, Message Brokers, gRPC, relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and ORMs.
- Unit testing experience with nUnit or xUnit.
- Medical device software development standards, particularly IEC 62304, or experience in a regulated engineering environment (e.g., aerospace, automotive).
- Certification in Business Analysis (CBAP, IIBA AAC) and experience with requirements management.
- UI technologies such as WPF, HTML5, Microsoft Windows Desktop, Windows Server.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and technologies.
