Junior CAD/CAM Programmer - Laser & Sheet Metal Brisbane Full-Time Permanent Training & Career Development

Are you currently working as a Laser Operator, CNC Operator, Press Brake Operator or Machine Operator and looking to take the next step into CAD/CAM programming?

Our client is an established and growing metal processing business seeking a motivated Junior CAD/CAM Programmer to join their production team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in laser cutting, sheet metal or manufacturing who is keen to develop their skills in programming, nesting and production planning.

You do not need extensive CAD/CAM programming experience. Full training and support will be provided to help you develop your knowledge of SigmaNEST, nesting, cutting sequences and production programming.

The Role

Working closely with the Production Manager and experienced team members, you will be trained to:

• Prepare CAD/CAM programs using SigmaNEST
• Review customer drawings and production requirements
• Create nesting layouts to maximise material usage and reduce waste
• Assist with developing efficient laser-cutting sequences
• Check programs against customer drawings and specifications
• Support the release of jobs into the production schedule
• Prepare job packs, production travellers and operator instructions
• Work closely with Laser and Press Operators to resolve program-related queries
• Assist with improving production efficiency and plate utilisation
• Maintain high standards of quality, safety and accuracy

About You

This role would suit someone who has:

• Experience working in a manufacturing, sheet metal or metal fabrication environment
• Previous experience as a Laser Operator, CNC Operator, Press Brake Operator, Machine Operator or Production Assistant
• An interest in learning CAD/CAM programming
• Basic CAD experience or exposure to SigmaNEST, ProNest, FastNEST or similar software is desirable but not essential
• The ability to read and interpret basic engineering or workshop drawings
• Good computer skills and a willingness to learn new software
• Strong attention to detail
• Good problem-solving skills
• A positive and reliable attitude
• The ability to work well with production and workshop teams
