Business Banking Technology is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommBank - from innovative product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business. We also use technology to drive simplicity and better banking, an essential component of great customer service underpinning a strong emphasis on software development as a craft and the adoption of industry best engineering practices.

See yourself in our team

As a Staff Software Developer, you will be part of a small squad within the CommBiz Mobile & Insight crew. You will be working with engineers on backend API and native CommBiz Mobile App for enterprise size clients. We offer regular opportunities to work on some of the finest IT systems in Australia, as well as opportunity to develop careers across different functions and teams within the wider Bank.

You'll be hands on coding and be responsible for shaping the evolution of this system by designing and developing micro services, data access layers, REST API(s), and writing integration services for third party API consumption, manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing, as well as learning more about back end engineering. You will have the opportunities to work on frontend web and native applications. You'll also be invited to join our regular engineering guilds and provide technical guidance to the junior members of the team.

We are interested in hearing from people who have
  • Proven hands on experience in developing backend applications using such as C# .NET Core, REST APIs, WebAPI, TypeScript, Node.JS, Next.JS
  • Proven hands on experience in developing front applications using Next.js, React.js, Angular, TypeScript
  • Proven experience in solution architecture design for enterprise scale applications
  • You're passionate about building developing and deploying high quality software solutions
  • Pride themselves on their ability to collaborate, present ideas, influence and challenge stakeholders
  • You're actively involved in continuous learning, experimentation and innovation, ready to apply and promote industry best patterns and practices, driving high quality outcomes to solve core business objectives
  • Solid hands on experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices. GitHub, CI/CD, Automated Testing, infrastructure cloud pipelines, logging and monitoring.
  • Are constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex technical problems and core business objectives
  • Are knowledgeable of security best practices and principles
  • Work on cross functional projects, ensuring alignment and addressing inter dependencies
  • Coaching and mentoring junior members in the team
Tech Skills

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team:

  • C# .NET Core, REST APIs and WebAPI
  • NodeJS, NestJS, ExpressJS, TypeScript
  • Angular, React, NextJS
  • AI powered engineering tools (e.g. Claude, Copilot)
  • Micro services and REST API Integration
  • Create database designs for both relational and NoSQL databases such as DocumentDB, MSSQL, Oracle and Snowflake
  • Build and hosting technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
  • GitHub, TeamCity, Octopus, Git Hub Action
  • CloudFormation + AWS Code Pipeline, Azure DevOps
  • Cloud hosting platforms AWS and Microsoft Azure
  • Familiarity with public cloud engineering - AWS or Azure or Microservices or Kafka/event-based architecture
  • Understanding of monitoring tools and CI/CD pipeline. (TeamCity, Octopus, GitHubAction, Observe, Splunk)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security best practices and principles.
  • Test Automation tools
