Job Description

Electrical Systems Engineer - Robotics

Join a growing technology company developing electric robotic platforms for agricultural and horticultural applications.

We are seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer with at least four years' experience, including hands-on experience developing or integrating robotic or autonomous systems. You will help improve an established platform's electrical subsystem and prepare future product generations for reliable manufacture and operation in demanding outdoor environments.

Working alongside mechanical, software, electronics and manufacturing specialists, you will guide system-level electrical decisions across the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Review existing electrical systems and identify improvements in reliability, robustness, performance, manufacturability, serviceability and cost.
  • Define and evolve the electrical architecture, including power distribution, grounding, protection, wiring, connectors and system interfaces.
  • Select and specify motors, actuators, sensors, motor controllers, batteries, DC/DC converters and other electrical components.
  • Develop requirements for outsourced PCBs and review external schematics and designs against system requirements.
  • Design and integrate wiring harnesses, including cable sizing, connector selection, routing, fusing and protection.
  • Plan and conduct validation testing, including building test rigs, defining procedures and analysing results.
  • Investigate electrical and electromechanical failures, determine root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Produce electrical architecture diagrams, wiring schematics, harness drawings, BOMs, interface definitions and test documentation.
  • Support manufacturing, integration and commissioning while improving product reliability and maintainability.
Qualifications
  • At least four years' relevant experience in electrical systems engineering, robotics, mechatronics or complex product development.
  • Hands-on experience developing or integrating robotic, autonomous or remotely operated platforms.
  • Experience integrating motors, actuators, sensors, motor controllers, batteries and low-voltage DC power systems.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, grounding, protection, wiring harnesses and connector selection.
  • Ability to define system-level PCBA requirements and review electrical schematics produced by external designers.
  • Experience with validation testing, fault-finding and root-cause analysis across integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture, serviceability, reliability and production support.
  • Strong collaboration and technical documentation skills.

Relevant experience may include mobile robots, autonomous vehicles, drones, agricultural robotics, industrial robots, defence robotics or other integrated robotic platforms.

A qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics or Robotics Engineering is desirable; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Why consider this opportunity?
  • Work directly on autonomous robotic products operating in real-world environments.
  • Influence the electrical architecture of existing and future platforms.
  • See your work progress from design and testing through to manufacture and field operation.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team across robotics, mechanical engineering, software and manufacturing.
  • Help establish electrical engineering standards and improve long-term product reliability.

This is a system-level electrical engineering role. Detailed PCB design and embedded firmware development will remain with specialist providers; your focus will be defining requirements, reviewing designs and ensuring the complete electrical subsystem operates reliably.

If you have hands-on robotics experience and enjoy solving practical, system-level engineering challenges, we would like to hear from you.
