Job Description:

We have an opportunity for a Head of Transformation to own and lead the delivery of bp's Mobility & Convenience Americas (M&CA) transformation portfolio, turning strategy into execution across strategic, operational, and digital initiatives that drive growth, customer experience, and efficiency.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who pairs the structured problem-solving rigor of a top-tier strategy house with deep delivery instinct and operational leadership experience: owning transformation roadmaps, driving enterprise-wide business change, leading agile, product-based delivery at pace, and being accountable for measurable business outcomes. You will lead a team and set the delivery standard across strategic, operational, and digital transformation programs.

Location

This role is ideally based in Chicago, Louisville, or Cleveland and operates under a hybrid work structure. In support of our leadership presence philosophy, we are seeking candidates who can regularly work from one of these core office locations. Other U.S. locations may be considered for the right candidate, subject to business needs and discussion.

Core accountabilities (shared across the leadership team)

  • Strategy to execution: Translate enterprise and Customers-level strategy into clear, actionable roadmaps with milestones, KPIs, and success measures. Drive execution across strategic, operational, and digital priorities, ensuring delivery of measurable business outcomes.
  • Portfolio leadership & accountability: own a portfolio of high-impact initiatives; manage interdependencies and risk, and be accountable for on-time delivery of outcomes and value.
  • Insight & decision leadership: Direct advanced analyses, financial modeling, value assessment, benchmarking, and operational performance reviews, and make the calls, turning complex data into decisions for senior leaders.
  • Executive narrative ownership: author and present compelling narratives for governance forums, performance reviews, and board-level updates; chair governance where you own the agenda.
  • Team leadership & capability building: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team. Build organizational capability across transformation, strategy execution, operational improvement, and digital delivery.

What sets this role apart

  • Own the transformation delivery strategy: Define and lead the transformation delivery strategy for M&CA across strategy, operations, and digital initiatives, and prioritize the portfolio to maximize business value.
  • Enable products, platforms & business transformation: Partner with Technology, Product, Engineering, Customers, and Operations to deliver scalable digital products and platforms while driving broader business transformation and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Drive operational excellence: Partner with business leaders to improve operational performance, simplify processes, strengthen governance, and embed continuous improvement across the organization. Lead initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness and sustainable business performance.
  • Set delivery excellence: Establish and continuously improve agile delivery frameworks, governance, tools, and metrics across squads and transformation programs. Ensure consistent execution standards across strategic, operational, and digital initiatives.
  • Own value realization: Ensure transformation initiatives deliver measurable outcomes, revenue growth, cost efficiency, customer impact, and operational improvements, and track benefits realization.

What you will need to be successful

We are looking for an exceptional problem-solver with a strong delivery instinct, operational leadership capability, and the seniority to lead. For this role, we require deep experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives across strategy, operations, and digital delivery, with a proven ability to translate strategy into execution and measurable business outcomes.

Experience (tiered)

Essential: 10-15+ years of post-university experience, including team leadership, with a strong foundation in top-tier management consulting, McKinsey, BCG, or Bain. Significant experience leading complex, cross-functional transformation portfolios spanning strategy, operations, and digital delivery.

Strongly preferred: Subsequent experience in oil & gas, ideally downstream (fuels, retail fuels, convenience, mobility).

Nice to have: Hands-on experience in retail and/or convenience. Experience working within agile product organizations and digital transformation environments.

Education: Bachelor's degree or relevant professional qualification (MBA beneficial but not required).

Key skills

  • Structured thinking & judgment: frame complex problems, test hypotheses, and make sound, data-driven decisions under ambiguity.
  • Advanced analytics: strong quantitative and qualitative skills — financial modeling, market assessment, scenario analysis, and clear synthesis.
  • Execution & delivery leadership: lead teams and complex plans, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver high-quality outcomes at pace.
  • Executive-ready communication: author and present compelling narratives to senior leadership, with strong written, verbal, and visual skills.
  • Cross-functional leadership: influence and align diverse teams and functions, integrating multiple perspectives into cohesive outcomes.
  • Commercial & external awareness: understand customer dynamics, market trends, competitive landscapes, and relevant policy – ideally in energy, mobility, retail, or other customer-facing industries.
