Job Description

Thrive Education Partners is looking for an experienced educator to provide personalized, in-person support to a middle-school student in North Austin. This is a focused tutoring role for someone who can help a bright student strengthen her math skills while also developing the organization, study habits, and executive functioning skills that become increasingly important in middle school.

You’ll meet with the student twice per week for one-hour sessions, with sessions between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM (Monday-Thursday), providing a combination of academic support and practical strategies she can carry into her day-to-day schoolwork. This is a great fit for an educator who enjoys the impact of 1:1 teaching and knows how to balance encouragement with clear structure and accountability.

Student Profile

You’ll be working with a bright middle-school student who would benefit from additional support navigating the academic and organizational demands of middle school.

The primary focus will be math and executive functioning, but this is a well-rounded academic support role. You should also be comfortable helping with English language arts, science, and social studies, including homework, studying, test preparation, and keeping up with day-to-day coursework. Along the way, you’ll help the student build stronger systems for organization, planning, managing assignments, and following through on responsibilities—so she becomes more confident and independent across all of her classes.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide engaging, individualized academic support across math, English language arts, science, and social studies, based on the student’s current coursework and needs
  • Provide deeper support in middle-school math, reinforcing classroom concepts, addressing skill gaps, and helping the student work through challenging material
  • Support homework, studying, test preparation, and day-to-day coursework across core academic subjects
  • Teach practical executive functioning strategies for organization, planning, time management, studying, and assignment management
  • Help the student prioritize responsibilities, break larger assignments into manageable steps, and stay on top of upcoming work
  • Build routines and systems that encourage greater independence, confidence, and follow-through across classes
  • Communicate with the family about progress, current priorities, and areas where additional support may be helpful

What Makes Someone Successful

  • You have experience teaching or tutoring middle-school students and understand both the academic demands and growing independence expected at this age
  • You’re a well-rounded educator who is comfortable supporting core middle-school subjects, including math, English language arts, science, and social studies
  • You have particular confidence with middle-school math and can explain concepts in different ways when something isn’t clicking
  • You have experience supporting executive functioning, including organization, planning, time management, study skills, and task completion
  • You can move naturally between helping with immediate coursework and teaching the habits and strategies that will help the student become a stronger, more independent learner
  • You bring warmth, patience, and encouragement while providing appropriate structure and accountability

Our Approach

At Thrive, individualized education means more than helping a student get through today's homework. Our educators work to understand the underlying skills a child needs to develop, establish clear priorities for growth, and provide intentional instruction that moves the student forward.

We're looking for an educator who can meet a child where they are, build a relationship that makes learning feel safe and achievable, and then thoughtfully challenge them toward greater skill, confidence, and independence.

We're Looking for Someone Who...

  • Has experience teaching or tutoring middle-school students and understands the academic, organizational, and developmental demands of this age.
  • Is a well-rounded educator who can confidently support coursework across math, English language arts, science, and social studies.
  • Has particular strength in middle-school math and can break down concepts, identify areas of confusion, and explain material in different ways.
  • Has experience supporting executive functioning skills, including organization, planning, time management, study strategies, assignment tracking, and task completion.
  • Can help a student manage homework, upcoming tests, projects, and competing priorities across multiple classes, rather than focusing on a single subject in isolation.
  • Knows when to provide direct academic support and when to coach the student toward greater independence and ownership of her work.
  • Can adapt sessions based on what is most pressing that week while still building consistent routines and stronger learning habits over time.
  • Brings warmth, patience, and encouragement while providing the structure and accountability a middle-school student may need.
  • Communicates clearly with families about progress, priorities, and areas where continued support would be helpful.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Classroom teaching experience and/or significant 1:1 tutoring experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with middle-school students.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring middle-school math.
  • Experience providing executive functioning, study skills, or organizational support to students.
  • Comfort providing academic support across ELA, science, and social studies in addition to math.
  • Active teaching license preferred, but not required.

Logistics & Compensation

  • Location: North Austin, Texas, approximately 15 minutes north of downtown
  • Setting: In-person tutoring
  • Schedule: 2 sessions per week, 1 hour per session (sessions between 4:30 and 6:30 any two days Monday-Thursday).
  • Start: As soon as possible
  • Compensation: $60–$90/hour, based on level of education and relevant experience

Why This Role

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference for a student without taking on a large weekly time commitment. You’ll have the space to work individually with one student, understand how she learns, and provide the kind of targeted academic and organizational support that can be difficult to get in a busy classroom.

For an educator who enjoys middle schoolers, math, and helping students become more capable and independent learners, this is a chance to see the impact of your work up close.
