Job Description

GIS Governance Coordinator (805933)

Richmond, VA

Duration: Long term

 

**NOTE: This is not a standard GIS Analyst or Manager role. Candidate should be able to demonstrate working governance experience.**

The GIS Governance Coordinator is responsible for establishing, improving, and managing enterprise GIS governance practices. This role leads key initiatives focused on inventory, workforce role and skills standardization, data lifecycle governance, and special projects. The position plays a critical role in advancing GIS-related VDOT Business Plan items and facilitating consistent, highquality GIS data management across the organization.

 

General Responsibilities:

 

Maintain documentation related to GIS governance.

Facilitate crossdepartment coordination to ensure consistent adoption of governance practices.

Prepare reports, presentations, and briefings for leadership and governance committees.

Support enterprise GIS strategic planning and continuous improvement activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Knowledge of GIS principles, data management, and enterprise GIS environments.

Understanding of data governance concepts including stewardship, lifecycle management, metadata, and data quality.

Ability to manage complex projects, engage stakeholders, and coordinate crossfunctional teams.

Skills in research, analytical thinking, workflow documentation, and process design.

Strong communication abilities, including writing governance documents and presenting technical findings to nontechnical audiences.

Experience with GIS technologies such as Esri tools, enterprise geodatabases, and spatial data services.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Experience with geospatial governance or enterprise data governance programs.

Familiarity with transportation data domains.

Experience developing skill frameworks or role competency models for technical disciplines.
