Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced SAP BusinessObjects Upgrade Consultant to lead critical enterprise upgrade initiatives involving the SAP BusinessObjects platform and/or SAP Data Services environment.

This individual will serve as the primary technical lead and hands-on administrator responsible for planning, executing, validating, and supporting upgrades to the latest SAP BusinessObjects technologies. The consultant will collaborate closely with infrastructure, database, and application teams while driving the project through planning, migration, testing, production cutover, and knowledge transfer.

This is a platform administration and infrastructure-focused role and is not a reporting, analytics, or BI development position.
Project Scope

The selected consultant will lead one or both of the following initiatives:

• Upgrade SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform from version 4.3 to BI 2025
• Upgrade SAP BusinessObjects Data Services from version 4.3 to Data Services 2025

Key Responsibilities

• Assess existing SAP BusinessObjects and Data Services environments and develop comprehensive upgrade and migration strategies
• Install, configure, and migrate SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform and/or Data Services environments to 2025 releases
• Upgrade and validate:
  • Central Management Server (CMS)
  • File Repository Server (FRS)
  • Central Management Console (CMC)
  • Web Intelligence (WebI)
  • Crystal Reports
  • Universes (UNV to UNX)
  • Security models and authentication mechanisms
  • Schedules and publications
  • Data Services repositories and ETL jobs
• Configure platform services, Apache Tomcat, SSL certificates, and enterprise authentication integrations
• Coordinate with SQL Server DBAs, server administrators, and infrastructure teams to provision and configure environments
• Lead migration testing, validation, performance tuning, production cutover, and post-deployment support activities
• Develop technical documentation, implementation runbooks, rollback procedures, architecture diagrams, and knowledge transfer materials
• Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the project lifecycle

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and executing SAP BusinessObjects 4.x platform upgrades
• Hands-on experience upgrading SAP BusinessObjects environments to newer releases, preferably BI 2025
• Proven experience upgrading SAP BusinessObjects Data Services environments and repositories
• Deep SAP BusinessObjects administration expertise, including:
  • CMS Administration
  • FRS Administration
  • CMC Administration
  • Web Intelligence (WebI)
  • Crystal Reports
  • Information Design Tool (IDT)
  • Promotion Management
  • Universe migrations (UNV to UNX)
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale SAP BI environments
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Windows Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Apache Tomcat
  • SSL configuration
  • Active Directory
  • LDAP
  • Single Sign-On (SSO)
• Ability to function as the primary technical resource while collaborating effectively with infrastructure, database, and development teams
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP BusinessObjects Platform Administration Certification
• SAP Data Services Certification
• Experience with SAP BusinessObjects BI 2025 implementations
• Experience upgrading large enterprise SAP BusinessObjects environments
• Experience working with SAP Analytics Cloud
• Familiarity with hybrid SAP BI architectures and modernization initiatives
• Public sector or utility industry experience is a plus

Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a SAP BusinessObjects Platform Administrator and Upgrade Specialist who has recently completed similar SAP BusinessObjects BI and/or Data Services upgrade projects. The ideal candidate is capable of independently leading the effort, performing the majority of the technical work, and providing expert guidance to supporting infrastructure and application teams throughout the project lifecycle.
