Job Description

We are seeking a Senior HPE Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise in HPE compute platforms, hybrid cloud architecture, and large-scale virtualized datacenter operations. This role focuses on designing, deploying, and managing enterprise infrastructure built on HPE ProLiant and Synergy platforms, with proven experience leading complex migration projects and mentoring technical teams.
This is an ideal role for someone with 15+ years of hands-on infrastructure experience who specializes in HPE hardware and has successfully managed thousands of virtual machines across multiple datacenters.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Architecture
  • Design enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions leveraging HPE ProLiant and Synergy platforms
  • Architect hybrid cloud environments integrating on-premises HPE infrastructure with Azure and AWS
  • Evaluate and recommend HPE hardware platforms (compute, storage, networking) based on workload requirements
  • Create detailed infrastructure runbooks and standard operating procedures
HPE Platform Expertise
  • Lead deployment and configuration of HPE ProLiant servers, Synergy converged infrastructure, and blade chassis (c-class, Synergy 12000)
  • Manage HPE OneView for unified infrastructure lifecycle management
  • Configure HPE Virtual Connect for networking and storage fabric connectivity
  • Optimize HPE iLO and iLO Amplifier for remote management at scale
  • Integrate HPE Intelligent Provisioning and Smart Provisioning for rapid server deployment
Virtualization & Compute Management
  • Manage large-scale virtualized environments (2,000+ VMs) on VMware vSphere and/or Hyper-V
  • Lead vSphere/Hyper-V migrations and platform upgrades on HPE hardware
  • Optimize VM placement, resource allocation, and performance tuning
  • Manage vSAN, S2D, or external SAN arrays (Pure, Nimble, EMC, NetApp) attached to HPE compute
  • Handle cluster configurations, high availability, and disaster recovery scenarios
Storage & Networking Integration
  • Design and implement storage architectures on HPE platforms (SAN, NAS, HCI)
  • Configure and manage Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NVMe connectivity
  • Design network overlays and integrate HPE switches/fabric with enterprise networks
  • Optimize storage performance and capacity planning
Cloud Hybrid Architecture
  • Design and implement hybrid cloud solutions with HPE on-premises and Azure/AWS
  • Manage HPE StoreVirtual or StoreOnce for backup integration with cloud
  • Architect workload placement decisions (on-premises vs. cloud)
  • Lead cloud migration projects and P2V/V2V migrations
Team Leadership & Knowledge Transfer
  • Mentor junior engineers on HPE platform best practices
  • Lead technical design reviews and architecture discussions
  • Provide Level 3+ escalation support for complex infrastructure issues
  • Document critical procedures and maintain knowledge base
  • Train internal teams on HPE infrastructure operational procedures
Project Delivery
  • Lead infrastructure refresh, consolidation, and migration projects
  • Manage vendor relationships with HPE, resellers, and channel partners
  • Coordinate hardware procurement, lead times, and deployment schedules
  • Execute phased rollouts with minimal business disruption
  • Track project budgets and deliver cost-effective solutions
Required Qualifications
Experience
  • 15+ years of IT infrastructure experience, with minimum 7+ years hands-on with HPE platforms
  • Demonstrated expertise managing 2,000+ virtual machines across multiple datacenters
  • Proven experience designing and deploying HPE ProLiant servers and/or Synergy infrastructure
  • Strong background in VMware vSphere (5.x through 7.x) OR Hyper-V cluster management
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems (Pure, Nimble, EMC, NetApp, Tintri, Dell Equallogic)
  • Solid understanding of SAN/NAS architecture, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, and NVMe connectivity
  • Experience leading infrastructure migrations (P2V, V2V, datacenter consolidations)
Technical Skills
  • HPE Compute Platforms:
    • ProLiant Gen8+ architecture and deployment
    • Synergy converged infrastructure (12000, 15000 series)
    • HP/HPE c-class blade enclosures and blade management
    • HP Virtual Connect and networking fabric
    • HPE OneView or Synergy Composer for lifecycle management
    • iLO, iLO Amplifier for remote management
    • Intelligent/Smart Provisioning for automated deployment
  • Virtualization:
    • VMware vSphere administration and architecture (vCenter, ESXi, HA/DRS/vSAN)
    • PowerCLI scripting for automation
    • Hyper-V cluster management and SCVMM
    • Virtual machine migration and performance tuning
  • Compute Hardware:
    • Server architecture, BIOS/UEFI configuration, firmware management
    • RAID configuration and optimization
    • CPU, memory, and I/O performance tuning
    • Network adapter teaming and advanced networking
    • Power management and thermal optimization
  • Storage Integration:
    • SAN provisioning and LUN management
    • Storage replication and snapshots
    • Backup infrastructure (Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup, etc.)
    • Capacity planning and storage tiering
  • Networking:
    • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN configuration
    • Load balancing (F5, Kemp, etc.)
    • VPN and site-to-site connectivity
    • Network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, etc.)
  • Scripting & Automation:
    • PowerShell and PowerCLI expertise
    • Python, Bash, or other scripting languages
    • IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible) preferred
    • Automation for repetitive operational tasks
  • Cloud Platforms:
    • Azure IaaS and hybrid connectivity (Azure ExpressRoute, VPN)
    • AWS EC2 and VPC concepts
    • Hybrid cloud architectural patterns
Certifications (Preferred)
  • VMware Certifications:
    • VCP (vSphere 6.0 or higher)
    • VCP-DCV, VCP-IaaS, or equivalent
  • Microsoft Certifications:
    • MCSA (Windows Server)
    • MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
  • Cloud Certifications:
    • AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect)
    • AWS Solutions Architect Associate
  • CompTIA:
    • Security+, Network+, A+
  • HPE Certifications:
    • HPE Certified Professional (any specialization)
    • Synergy or ProLiant training completion
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Project management experience coordinating multi-team, multi-phase engagements
  • Problem-solving mindset with systematic troubleshooting approach
  • Mentoring ability to teach junior engineers and build team capability
  • Documentation discipline for runbooks, architecture diagrams, and knowledge transfer

  • Experience with HPE StoreVirtual, StoreOnce, or StoreEasy storage solutions
  • Hands-on experience with hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platforms
  • Familiarity with HPE SMARTnet support and vendor escalations
  • Experience in financial services, healthcare, or other regulated environments (HIPAA, PCI, SOX)
  • Background in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Acquisition/integration experience (post-M&A infrastructure consolidation)
  • Experience building and maintaining CMMC L2 or FedRAMP compliant infrastructure
  • Active Security+ clearance or ability to obtain one
