Quality Engineer (SFIA 5)
Contract Duration: 6 months
Rate: £460 per day Inside IR35
Location: At least 2x per month in Telford
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join the CoreMod Programme, a major transformation initiative focused on modernising HMRC's tax administration systems. You will work within agile Scrum teams of 4-8 engineers, delivering high-quality solutions through two-week sprint cycles across a diverse and modern technology landscape.
This is an excellent opportunity for a quality-focused engineer who is passionate about automation, continuous improvement, and embedding quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and implement automated testing solutions from the ground up.
- Develop and execute test strategies using TDD, BDD and risk-based testing approaches.
- Champion shift-left testing practices and support CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Coach and mentor development teams on Quality Engineering best practices.
- Perform testing across all levels, including:
- Unit Testing
- System Testing
- Integration Testing
- Non-Functional Testing
Essential Technical Capabilities
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Ability to read, understand and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) written by developers to support test analysis and defect investigation.
- Experience designing and developing automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright with Java.
- Strong capability in developing and maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts in Java across:
- UI Testing
- API Testing
- System-Level Testing
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in Quality Engineering and software testing.
- Strong understanding of automated testing principles and frameworks.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with Git and GitLab.
- Knowledge of Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience coaching and mentoring team members.
- Quality-focused mindset with a continuous improvement approach.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional delivery teams.
