Job Description

Title: Cyber Security Engineer
Location: DC Metro area, Rockville, MD or McLean, VA (Hybrid 3 days onsite with 2 days remote)
Duration: 6 Months with possible extension

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise security solutions that protect systems, data, and cloud environments from evolving cyber threats. This role combines security engineering, cloud security, email security, and data protection, requiring a hands-on engineer who can independently manage security technologies while partnering with infrastructure, cloud, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain enterprise security controls across infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and email environments.
Administer and optimize enterprise email security solutions, protecting against phishing, malware, business email compromise, and data exfiltration.
Manage AWS security services, including IAM, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, logging, monitoring, network security, and configuration management.
Develop, tune, and maintain security detection, monitoring, and protection rules to meet business and regulatory requirements.
Identify security risks and vulnerabilities, perform root cause analysis, and implement mitigation strategies.
Lead data protection initiatives, including data classification, labeling, DLP policy management, monitoring, and incident response.
Support security audits, compliance initiatives, and control documentation while ensuring consistent deployment and lifecycle management of security tools.
Provide technical leadership for security projects, troubleshoot complex security issues, and serve as an escalation point for operational support.

Required Qualifications
6+ years of experience in information security, security engineering, or cybersecurity operations.
Experience implementing enterprise security controls across infrastructure, cloud, and application environments.

Hands-on experience with:
Google Workspace/Gmail, Secure Email Gateways, SMTP, or Microsoft Exchange
AWS security services (IAM, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, configuration management)
Data Loss Prevention (DLP), data classification, and labeling technologies
Strong understanding of security engineering principles, identity and access management, network and system security, and industry security standards.
Experience supporting enterprise data protection and classification programs.
Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
