Job Description

Assistant General Counsel - Real Estate

Location: Fully Remote
Schedule: Full-Time | Exempt
Base Salary: $160,000-$175,000, commensurate with experience, plus eligibility for an annual bonus of up to 10%.

At Professional Physical Therapy, every clinic starts with a strong foundation. With 200+ outpatient clinics across New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire, thoughtful real estate strategy is essential to how we grow and serve our communities.

We are seeking a practical, business-minded real estate attorney to lead the legal work supporting our commercial lease portfolio. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will own real estate matters from negotiation through ongoing portfolio management while partnering closely with company leadership, our real estate broker, outside counsel, and project-management teams.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Stay Covered: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Real Balance: Generous paid time off because life outside of work matters.
  • Plan Ahead: Company-matched 401(k).
  • Care for Your Crew: MetLife Pet Insurance with flexible plans, reimbursement on eligible expenses, and 24/7 telehealth support.
  • Play More, Pay Less: Exclusive savings through PlumBenefits and LifeMart on travel, entertainment, shopping, dining, and more.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of commercial leases, subleases, amendments, and related real estate agreements.
  • Partner with company leadership, our real estate broker, outside counsel, and project-management teams to move transactions forward efficiently.
  • Provide clear, regular updates to stakeholders on active negotiations, key decisions, risks, and timing.
  • Identify and mitigate legal and business risks associated with real estate transactions, escalating significant matters to the General Counsel as appropriate.
  • Oversee critical lease dates and obligations, including renewals, options, expirations, rent escalations, and other portfolio milestones.
  • Support lease-portfolio optimization, risk management, clinical-office build-outs, and compliance considerations, including ADA requirements.
  • Maintain and improve lease templates, negotiation playbooks, legal workflows, and portfolio-management practices.
  • Use lease-management, contract-management, document-automation, and AI tools to improve accuracy, visibility, and efficiency.

What You'll Bring

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • 3-5 years of legal experience drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases and related agreements.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify practical solutions while protecting the organization from risk.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple active matters, and collaborate effectively with legal and business partners in a remote environment.

Nice to Have

  • Healthcare-industry experience or familiarity with healthcare regulatory requirements and clinical-office build-outs.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance requirements for commercial spaces.
  • Experience with lease-management systems, contract-management platforms, document automation, or AI prompting.
