We're working with an innovative organisation that's redefining how people learn through AI. They are building next-generation AI products that deliver personalised, real-time learning experiences at scale and are looking for a Principal AI Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of their AI platform.
This is not an infrastructure or MLOps-focused role. They're looking for experienced AI builders who have designed, developed and shipped AI products in commercial environments and are passionate about solving complex problems with cutting-edge technologies.
The Opportunity
As a Principal AI Engineer, you'll work on the core AI systems that power adaptive and intelligent user experiences. You'll have the opportunity to build sophisticated LLM-based applications, experiment with emerging AI capabilities and contribute to products that have a genuine impact on end users.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and evolve complex AI systems using Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt architectures and agentic workflows.
- Develop real-time, adaptive AI capabilities that deliver personalised and intelligent user experiences.
- Create custom evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure model performance, reliability and product effectiveness.
- Design scalable, maintainable software solutions using Python and modern cloud technologies.
- Integrate AI capabilities across platform systems, content pipelines and user-facing products.
- Prototype and productionise novel AI interactions by leveraging the latest developments in AI research.
- Implement testing, monitoring and guardrails to ensure quality, safety and observability across AI systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate customer and business requirements into impactful AI products.
- Mentor others and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for hands-on AI engineers who can demonstrate ownership of the products they've built.
You'll ideally have:
- Commercial experience designing and delivering AI products and solutions.
- Strong experience building LLM-based applications and AI-driven products.
- Excellent prompt engineering skills and experience designing agentic systems and workflows.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with expertise in Python.
- Experience working with cloud environments and CI/CD practices.
- A product mindset with a focus on customer outcomes and business value.
- The ability to work across strategy, engineering and product development.
- Experience creating meaningful AI evaluation methods and custom performance metrics.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
