Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Aerospace Cybersecurity Engineer to join a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CoE) and support aerospace and defense programs.
The role involves threat modeling, cybersecurity risk assessments, security architecture, embedded systems security, hardware security, vulnerability management, secure development, cryptography, and cybersecurity compliance.
The engineer will support federal and commercial aerospace projects and will be responsible for leading cybersecurity activities, technical assessments, secure development support, lab-based testing, and customer-facing technical engagements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead cybersecurity activities for aerospace and avionics programs.
Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and security architecture reviews.
Assess security of embedded systems, controllers, avionics, and aircraft platforms.
Support secure boot, code signing, cryptography, and secure firmware updates.
Conduct cybersecurity testing, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
Define cybersecurity measures for aerospace embedded systems and hardware.
Support Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC) activities.
Perform hardware security assessments and evaluate root-of-trust architectures.
Support compliance with aerospace and federal cybersecurity requirements.
Review customer requirements, RFIs/RFQs, and contribute to proposal development.
Interface with customers, federal contractors, and internal engineering teams.
Support cybersecurity lab testing and occasional on-site assessments at customer and aircraft locations.
Lead technical discussions and communicate cybersecurity findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of cybersecurity engineering experience.
3+ years of aerospace cybersecurity experience.
Strong experience with:
Aerospace threat modeling and risk assessments
Embedded systems security
Hardware security
Root-of-trust concepts
Cryptography and code signing
Secure boot and secure firmware updates
Vulnerability management
Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Familiarity with:
DO-326A / ED-202A
DO-356A
NIST Cybersecurity Framework
FIPS 140-3
Experience supporting ITAR-controlled and/or federal aerospace programs.
Strong technical communication and customer-facing skills.
Ability to work from the Pittsburgh cybersecurity lab.
Willingness to travel up to 10–15% as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting FAA, DoD, defense, or commercial aerospace programs.
Knowledge of aircraft control systems and avionics.
Knowledge of aerospace hardware security architectures.
Experience conducting cybersecurity assessments in laboratory or aircraft environments.
Experience working directly with customers and federal contractors.
