Job Description

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer – Backend / AI Systems
Location: New York, NY ( Hybrid – 4 days per week in the NYC office )
Employment Type: Full-time permanent role
Experience Required: 6+ years

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend and systems-design experience to build and scale complex, AI-powered software systems.
This is a high-ownership role for an engineer who has solved difficult technical problems, built systems end-to-end, and worked successfully in fast-growing startup environments. The ideal candidate combines strong Python, TypeScript, AWS, backend architecture, and system design skills with the ability to understand business problems and translate them into scalable engineering solutions.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build highly scalable, fault-tolerant cloud systems.
  • Build and improve AI-powered workflows and data-processing systems.
  • Own high-impact engineering projects from architecture through production.
  • Design backend services, APIs, data extraction, and document-processing systems.
  • Improve infrastructure scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into simple and effective technical solutions.
  • Make architectural decisions and clearly explain technical trade-offs.
  • Partner closely with product and other business teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on leadership.
  • Help raise engineering quality, speed, and technical standards across the team.
Required Experience
Candidates should have:
  • 6+ years of backend/software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 years in a high-growth, venture-backed startup, ideally during a pre-Series A through Series B+ scaling stage.
  • Experience owning and delivering significant technical projects end-to-end.
  • Strong experience designing and scaling production backend systems.
  • Experience working in dynamic environments where requirements and priorities change quickly.
  • Evidence of stable career progression and meaningful technical ownership.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain both technical and business decisions clearly.

Relevant AWS experience may include:

They should also be able to clearly explain architecture choices and engineering trade-offs.
