Mechanical Engineer Location: Thetford, Norfolk Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum The Opportunity We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join a growing industrial manufacturing site operating within the sustainable construction materials sector. This is a practical engineering role where you'll be responsible for keeping heavy process plant running efficiently through planned maintenance, reactive breakdown repairs and continuous improvement. The role is heavily mechanically biased and would suit someone who enjoys working on large industrial machinery rather than highly automated production equipment. If you have strong experience working on conveyor systems, gearboxes, hydraulics and rotating equipment, we'd like to hear from you. Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) across the site's mechanical plant.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
- Strip down, inspect, repair and rebuild industrial gearboxes.
- Maintain and repair conveyor systems including rollers, bearings, drives, tracking systems and motors.
- Fault find and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, cylinders, valves and pipework.
- Carry out mechanical repairs on mixers, rotating equipment, pumps and associated process machinery.
- Support low voltage electrical fault finding where required.
- Identify reliability improvements and implement engineering solutions to reduce future failures.
- Maintain engineering stores and critical spare parts.
- Ensure maintenance records are accurately completed.
- Work closely with production teams to maximise plant availability Essential Experience
- Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification, or expereince.
- Strong background maintaining heavy industrial plant. Proven experience working on:
- Conveyor systems
- Gearbox strip-downs, rebuilds and repairs
- Hydraulic fault finding and repairs
- Pumps, bearings, motors and rotating equipment
- Pneumatic systems
- Experience carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Basic low voltage electrical fault-finding ability.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of site maintenance. What You'll Be Working On This role focuses on maintaining heavy mechanical equipment including:
