The Role

The ABC is looking for a Network Producer to produce nightly TV News and Video content that delivers innovative and original stories.

The Job
  • Oversee delivery of the 7pm News Strategy across all states and territories.
  • Work with the Newsgathering Editor and Network Lead, ABC News Video on coverage plans for major network stories.
  • Make sure coverage meets the needs of the flagship 7pm bulletins and digital platforms.
  • Work closely with metro newsrooms, Digital, and the ABC News Channel Editor to align the strategy with broader continuous news goals.
  • Coordinate, manage, and assess the quality of video news content across all platforms and outlets.
  • Support reporters with planning, commissioning, and newsgathering to deliver creative video packages and explainers for digital and TV audiences.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on audience needs, bulletin performance, and digital video content.
  • Oversee national scheduled TV output to ensure it follows editorial policies and ABC News style guides.
  • Generate stories that reflect the diversity of Australia, including its cultural, geographic, and socio-economic range.

About You

You'll have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge and experience
  • Experience as a senior broadcast journalist and producer with strong knowledge of television news production; able to lead program teams
  • Ability to recognise and articulate national and international news significance
  • Extensive understanding of television news production techniques
  • Outstanding, highly effective communication; proven team player in multi-disciplinary, time-pressured environments
  • Sound leadership, communication and negotiation skills
  • Ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity
  • Proven ability to source and maintain contacts across the broader Australian community
