JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires a Project Manager III under the FAST contract to provide senior-level project management support for complex, enterprise-level initiatives. The resource will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating project activities, including scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder management across cross-functional teams. This role ensures successful delivery of projects by maintaining alignment with DPS objectives, governance standards, and established project management methodologies.

 

·        Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, and communication components.

·        Define project objectives, deliverables, milestones, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.

·        Coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and business units to ensure alignment and execution of project activities.

·        Monitor project performance, track progress against milestones, and ensure timely escalation and resolution of issues and risks.

·        Facilitate stakeholder engagement, meetings, and status reporting to ensure clear communication and transparency.

·        Manage project scope changes through formal change control processes and ensure governance compliance.

·        Oversee vendor performance and deliverables when external contractors are involved.

·        Ensure adherence to DPS policies, state procurement requirements, and FAST contract guidelines.

·        Support project documentation, reporting, and administrative requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

·        Drive project closure activities, including final reporting, deliverable acceptance, and lessons learned documentation. 

II.  CANDIDATE SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

8RequiredStrong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI/PMBOK, Agile, Hybrid)

8RequiredProven ability to manage multiple stakeholders across technical and business units
8RequiredExperience with risk management, issue tracking, and change control processes
8RequiredStrong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting
8RequiredExperience using project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar)
8RequiredAbility to ensure compliance with organizational governance, policies, and procurement requirements
1PreferredExperience working in public sector or state government environments, preferably within public safety or law enforcement agencies
1PreferredExperience managing projects under state procurement frameworks (e.g., FAST, DIR, or similar contracts)
1PreferredPMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must be available for on-site work for up to four days per week at TXDPS HQ in Austin, TX.
