Job Description

Job summary

To underwrite and manage a profitable International General Liability book.

Main duties

  1. Support the Head of Intl GL in writing a profitable International General Liability book focused on Delegated Authority business
  2. Take responsibility for part of the International General Liability class of business including monitoring and oversight of Delegated Authority business
  3. Support the production of a business plan for review and agreement by Divisional Head
  4. Input into the monthly and quarterly forecasting process for the International General Liability class
  5. Underwrite in accordance with underwriting authority and the business plan
  6. Seek out new business opportunities through liaison with brokers and clients
  7. Review of new and renewal risks including slip analyses, perform rating/benchmark analyses and
  8. undertake premium monitoring
  9. Liaise with brokers and develop good working relationships with broking and support teams
  10. Liaise with other business areas within Chaucer as required, including credit control, claims, internal risk review, actuarial etc.
  11. Use market, industry and other sources to enhance awareness of technical factors and developments relevant to portfolio underwriting and the Int GL market in general
  12. Peer Review of Delegated Authority business as allocated under the peer review selection criteria and responsibility matrix as set out in the Underwriting Manual.
  13. Responsibility for the accuracy and upkeep of written premium data on Charisma and other systems for all risks written within the area of responsibility
  14. Work closely with the Delegated Authority Centre of Excellence as a focal point for Delegated Authority business
  15. Prepare reports and statistical information as required by senior management
  16. Assist in the continuous assessment of rating and benchmarking models
  17. Travel to visit existing and potential clients as required
  18. Ensure compliance with and maintenance of Group systems
  19. Compliance with Lloyd’s and CIC regulations and byelaws

Regulatory responsibilities

  1. Manage the relationships with Customers, Agents and Service Providers:
  2. Ensure that the principles of Treating Customers Fairly are upheld by Agents and Service Providers.
  3. Ensure that the brokers, cedants and coverholders are vetted and approved by Compliance and TOBAs in place prior to engaging and/or writing business with.

Our requirements

Relevant experience

  1. Delegated Authority Underwriting background
  2. Minimum of 5 years working within the Lloyds insurance environment
  3. Desirable elevant experience in Casualty International Liability Insurance or related classes and
  4. knowledge of the London and Lloyd’s markets

Technical skills

Essential

  1. MS Office – including Excel & Word
  2. Relevant insurance platform experience – PPL & Whitespace
  3. Comfortable with using in-house underwriting management systems
  4. A detailed understanding of fundamental insurance/reinsurance concepts, MRC
  5. slip standards, contract certainty requirements, market standard model clauses
  6. (NMA, LMA, LSW model endorsements & exclusions), and class-specific terms
  7. and conditions

  1. Desirable ACII qualified or working towards achieving associateship.
