Controller

Location: Northwest suburb of Chicago - ~1 hour from downtown

Job Type: Onsite

Salary: $110-125k per year

Client/Job Summary:

A logistics company is looking for a Controller to manage their accounting functions including preparing financial statements, managing the close process, variance analysis, financial reporting, and expense management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close activities.
  • Own monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis.
  • Build and enhance cost accounting processes, identify inefficiencies, and partner with operations to improve profitability.
  • Oversee AP, AR, purchasing, collections, banking relationships, fixed assets, and internal controls.
  • Lead ERP implementation and process improvement initiatives to increase reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Manage the accounting team and provide leadership across finance operations.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop reporting by business unit, location, and project to drive decision-making.
  • Coordinate audits, tax filings, insurance programs, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Support payroll, benefits administration, and HR-related financial processes.
  • Assist executive leadership with growth initiatives, acquisitions, capital planning, and long-term business strategy.

Key Qualifications:

  • Progressive accounting and finance leadership experience within a multi-entity, operationally intensive environment.
  • Strong financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, and cash management expertise.
  • Experience improving processes, implementing systems, and building scalable financial infrastructure.
  • Hands-on leader comfortable managing both strategic initiatives and day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Ability to partner closely with operations and executive leadership to support growth and business performance.
