Job Description

Make an impact bringing your passion for UX Research in a collaborative, supportive team! Be the go-to research expert and shape how insight drives decisions across our Financial Services portfolio! Permanent full time role based in Richmond or Sydney.

Team Overview

REA Financial Services brings together REA's scale, consumer audience on property data and finance capabilities to help Australians not just find property, but finance it too. The business connects personalised property and finance journeys across consumer experiences, Mortgage Choice's national broker network, and PropTrack's valuation and property insights capabilities, with the ambition to become Australia's number one destination to find and finance property.

Role Summary

The Senior UX Researcher is a research leader within the Financial Services Product & Technology function, working across the Mortgage Choice, Campaign Agent, and PropTrack Mortgage Solutions Product and Technology teams. You are responsible for strengthening our research practice, growing research capability across Financial Services and ensuring evidence informs product strategy and design decisions. As the team's research specialist, you provide methodological expertise, coach others to conduct effective research, lead complex research where your expertise has the greatest impact and connect insights across squads to build a richer understanding of the people we design for.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a deep understanding of the people we design for, business context and competitive landscape to identify the most impactful research opportunities.
  • Partner with Product and Design to shape roadmaps and strategy, ensuring research informs decisions from the earliest stages rather than simply validating them.
  • Translate evidence into strategic recommendations that influence prioritisation, investment and product direction.
  • Apply systems thinking to connect insights across products and journeys, identifying opportunities that create greater value for users, the business and the broader ecosystem.
  • Coach designers and others who conduct research, building confidence and capability in research planning, facilitation, synthesis and insight communication.
  • Champion research best practices, helping teams understand which methods to use, when to use them and what great research looks like.
  • Lead complex research initiatives where your expertise has the greatest impact, while enabling designers and product teams to confidently conduct research throughout the product lifecycle, from discovery and validation through to post-launch evaluation.
  • Apply qualitative methods with mastery and strong capability in quantitative approaches, using a mixed-methods lens to produce richer, more defensible insights.
  • Help teams select and apply the right research methods, knowing when lightweight discovery is appropriate and when deeper investigation will create greater value.
  • Design and facilitate research sessions, workshops and stakeholder interviews where specialist expertise is required, ensuring findings are credible, well-evidenced and clearly communicated.
  • Synthesise research across squads, identifying recurring themes and translating them into actionable opportunities that inform product and business decisions.
  • Contribute to shared research infrastructure, including templates, frameworks, research repositories, participant recruitment and insight management, helping keep the practice efficient, scalable and consistent.
  • Stay connected to emerging research methods, AI-assisted research techniques and industry trends, helping evolve how we generate insight.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity and evidence-informed decision making across Financial Services.
  • Contribute to the broader Design and Research community by sharing learnings, evolving standards and promoting a culture where insight is valued and acted upon.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience leading UX research across complex digital products.
  • Deep expertise in qualitative research, with confidence applying quantitative and mixed-method approaches where appropriate.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience working with a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative leader who enjoys coaching others, growing research capability and raising the quality of the research practice.
