Lead AI Engineer – Compliance Screening Platform
Location: Rockville, MD – Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Duration: 6 months + long-term extensions

Job Summary

We are seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design and build an AI-powered compliance screening platform that analyzes communications against regulatory standards. The role focuses on LLMs, RAG, multimodal AI, explainable AI, and compliance risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Design scalable AI/ML pipelines for PDFs, emails, images, video/audio, and HTML.
• Build LLM-powered RAG systems grounded in regulatory content.
• Develop compliance classifiers, risk-scoring models, and violation-detection workflows.
• Implement prompt engineering, tool calling, fine-tuning, guardrails, and hallucination mitigation.
• Build explainable, evidence-backed AI decisions with complete audit trails.
• Define model evaluation metrics including precision, recall, and false negatives.
• Perform adversarial/edge-case testing and implement human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Provide technical leadership, establish AI/MLOps best practices, and mentor engineers.

Required Experience

• 10+ years in AI/ML or software engineering with production AI systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python, LLMs, NLP, RAG, and LLM evaluation.
• Experience with multimodal AI, OCR, document processing, or vision-language models.
• Experience with LangChain, AWS Strands, or similar LLM/agent frameworks.
• Experience with vector databases such as PGVector or Pinecone.
• Strong experience with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform, MLOps, CI/CD, and scalable architectures.
• Experience with DeepEval or similar LLM evaluation frameworks is preferred.
• Financial services, regulatory, legal, healthcare, or other regulated-industry experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Explainable AI, AI governance, auditability, and compliance is a plus.
