Software Engineer (C++/Java) – Data Platform

Location: Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX – Hybrid
Duration: 6 Months+ (Possible Extension)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong C++/Java development and distributed systems experience to join a Data Platform engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a strong software engineering background with hands-on experience building scalable, high-throughput applications and data processing platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable software applications using C++ and/or Java.
• Build and operate distributed systems and high-throughput applications at scale.
• Develop data processing pipelines using technologies such as Apache Spark, SQL, Snowflake, Hadoop, and related big-data platforms.
• Contribute to large-scale machine learning and data platforms, including feature extraction, data annotation, and model operationalization.
• Develop full-stack applications supporting big-data analysis and data-intensive workflows.
• Operationalize distributed applications and ensure reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot complex technical problems and implement effective, scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and data teams to design and deliver production-grade solutions.
• Apply strong problem-solving, strategic-thinking, and communication skills to complex engineering challenges.

Required Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages, particularly C++ or Java.
• Hands-on experience building distributed systems.
• Experience developing data processing pipelines and large-scale data platforms.
• Strong experience with one or more big-data technologies such as:
  • Apache Spark
  • SQL
  • Snowflake
  • Hadoop
• Experience operationalizing distributed applications in production environments.
• Experience building high-throughput, scalable applications.
• Experience with machine learning platforms, ML models, feature extraction, or data annotation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working on large-scale data/ML platforms.
• Experience with cloud-based distributed computing environments.
• Experience developing full-stack applications for data analysis.
• Experience optimizing application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Experience working in fast-paced engineering environments involving large-scale datasets.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid – Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX

Candidates should be comfortable working in a hybrid environment and reporting to the designated office as required.

Note: This is a contract opportunity with a possibility of extension.
