About This Role

A leading automotive manufacturer is adding an Architectural / Civil / Structural (ACS) Field Engineer to support capital construction at its San Antonio, TX manufacturing campus. You will be the field-side technical authority on foundations, steel erection, and building-system installations, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, coordinating contractors and equipment vendors from factory testing through commissioning and handover, and running continuous work-progress and code-compliance inspections. The role also carries construction-administration duties and requires coordinating weekend and plant-shutdown work with contractors, facilities groups, and manufacturing shops. Expect roughly 30% domestic travel and up to 20% overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate architectural, civil, and structural installations (foundations, steel erection) and commissioning activities
  • Provide subject-matter expert review of product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings, specifications, and contractor RFIs
  • Coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and handover with construction contractors and equipment vendors
  • Coordinate weekend and plant-shutdown work with contractors, plant facilities groups, and manufacturing shops
  • Conduct continuous work-progress inspections
  • Inspect civil and structural building systems for compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes
  • Support construction administration: schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planned utility outages
  • Oversee civil and structural contractors for adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestones, and cross-group coordination
  • Prepare field engineering status reports on work progress and schedule for project managers
  • Provide input and feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards
  • Apply safety procedures and OSHA requirements for civil and structural installations, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out, electrical safe work practices, control of hazardous energy, and arc-flash safety
  • Multi-task and prioritize project commitments against established deadlines and project milestones

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 5 to 10 years of overall engineering experience
  • 5+ years in architectural, civil, and/or structural design
  • 2+ years in construction management
  • Experience developing design criteria for architectural, civil, and structural systems
  • Automotive facility experience (engine, transmission, or vehicle assembly) or comparable heavy industrial manufacturing
  • Able to work 100% onsite in San Antonio, TX, support weekend and plant-shutdown work, and travel up to 30% domestically
