In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.

Bath Iron Works is seeking a Safety Engineer to join our Safety & Health department. In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline in a very dynamic, fast paced shipyard industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership:
- Identifying workplace hazards and feasible means of abatement
- Participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections
- Developing fall protection plans
- Project Execution:
- Assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems
- Training and Development:
- Provide training as necessary to ensure total safety culture is attainable
- Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards
- Providing direction and technical support on compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures
- Continuous Improvement:
- Conduct root cause accident and incident investigations as well as developing subsequent corrective action(s)
- Reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- Bachelor's Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Specific demonstrated experience in work place health and safety programs/oversight may be substituted for educational requirements.
Required/Preferred Experience
- Safety/Health Engineer II - 2-4 years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
- Safety/Health Engineer III - 5+ years of experience in health and safety oversight/programs.
- Experience in a heavy industrial environment or shipyard preferred.
- Specific experience in lifting and handling, rigging, fall protection, confined space entry, industrial hygiene and / or ergonomics preferred.
- Technical writing skills and knowledge of OSHA and/or industry standards preferred.
- Must be physically able to lift, crawl, climb, and work in confined spaces and at heights (required).
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and familiarity with Access required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to successfully multi-task and to plan and coordinate time dependent activities required.
- Good organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, team building, and decision-making abilities required.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities required.
- Ability to establish effective relationships with personnel in all areas and levels of the company required.
