Job Description
- Role Summary
- The Controls Engineer 2 will support the design, development, calibration, testing, and validation of engine control systems. This role focuses on applying control-system principles to dynamic engine systems, analyzing test data, troubleshooting technical issues, and improving control strategies.
- The engineer will work in both simulation and hands-on engine test environments, providing an opportunity to gain practical experience with real engine hardware and advanced control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and execution of electrical design schedules from initial specifications and concepts through system completion while maintaining overall project timelines.
- Design, test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate control systems, products, and instruments.
- Analyze engine and plant processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Troubleshoot hardware, control-system, and process-related issues.
- Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations to support system design.
- Apply knowledge of electrical requirements, motor controls, and applicable safety standards.
- Support testing and validation activities in simulation and on-engine environments.
- Analyze and interpret engine and test-cell data.
- Identify root causes of technical issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Ensure applicable safety objectives and legal requirements are met throughout development and testing.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.

- A typical day may include:
- Performing control-system calibration in simulation.
- Performing calibration and testing on actual engine hardware.
- Analyzing engine and test-cell data.
- Investigating unexpected system behavior.
- Performing root-cause analysis.
- Developing and evaluating control strategies.
- Presenting technical findings and recommendations.
- Collaborating with other engineers and process partners to resolve technical issues.

- Receive work direction and technical guidance from the Technical Lead.
- Collaborate with peers on engineering and calibration activities.
- Work closely with process partners and other technical teams.
- Communicate technical results, issues, and recommendations to the broader engineering team.

- This is a hands-on engineering role with a mix of:
- Desk-based engineering and analysis.
- Simulation and modeling work.

Candidate Requirements
- Education & Experience
- Experience: 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- A graduate degree in a relevant field may count toward the experience requirement.
- Degree: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Internships: Engine-controls internships may be considered as relevant experience.
- Comparable Job Titles: Controls Engineer 1 or Controls Engineer 2.
