Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Agile Delivery Manager to play a key role in improving and leading delivery across a complex technology environment.
This is a senior delivery position with responsibility extending beyond an individual team or squad. You will work across multiple teams, products and initiatives, establishing effective delivery practices, removing obstacles and ensuring that technology investment translates into meaningful business outcomes.
You will combine strong delivery leadership with coaching, facilitation and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating with autonomy, challenging constructively when required, and taking ownership for delivery performance and outcomes.
A key part of the role will be developing capable, accountable teams and helping to continuously improve the organisation's approach to technology delivery.
Key ResponsibilitiesDelivery Leadership- Take ownership of end-to-end delivery across one or more product areas, programmes or strategic initiatives.
- Establish realistic delivery plans covering scope, timescales, dependencies and, where relevant, financial considerations.
- Maintain delivery momentum while ensuring outcomes remain aligned with business priorities.
- Identify risks, constraints and blockers early and take appropriate action to resolve them.
- Provide clear visibility of delivery status and emerging issues.
- Support teams in adopting effective Agile principles and practices.
- Adapt delivery approaches according to the needs and maturity of individual teams rather than applying methodology rigidly.
- Coach teams towards greater autonomy, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Help create an environment in which teams collaborate effectively and take ownership of outcomes.
- Encourage practical improvements to delivery flow and ways of working.
- Coordinate delivery across multiple teams, products and stakeholders.
- Identify, manage and communicate cross-team dependencies.
- Support effective sequencing of work and maintain alignment between interconnected initiatives.
- Anticipate issues that could affect delivery across the wider technology landscape and intervene early.
- Lead delivery planning and forecasting across your area of responsibility.
- Provide accurate and meaningful reporting on progress, risks, dependencies and delivery confidence.
- Use delivery data to support informed decision-making.
- Establish appropriate governance that provides control and visibility without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Lead periodic planning cycles, ensuring priorities, dependencies and expected outcomes are understood.
- Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Technology and the wider organisation.
- Act as a senior delivery representative, providing clarity and constructive challenge where appropriate.
- Manage expectations effectively and communicate difficult messages with confidence.
- Influence decisions and priorities to support successful delivery.
- Translate complex delivery issues into clear, commercially relevant information for stakeholders.
- Establish and monitor meaningful measures of delivery performance, such as throughput, cycle time and predictability.
- Use data and insight to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Drive initiatives that improve delivery effectiveness, team performance and flow.
- Share successful practices and contribute to raising delivery capability across the wider function.
- Partner with Product and Technology leadership to support the development and execution of broader roadmaps.
- Contribute delivery insight to prioritisation, sequencing and feasibility discussions.
- Ensure proposed plans are achievable and focused on measurable outcomes.
- Help balance customer, technical, operational and commercial considerations when shaping delivery plans.
- Help define and evolve delivery practices, standards and ways of working across the organisation.
- Lead by example and promote consistent, effective delivery behaviours.
- Support the development and capability of other Delivery Managers and delivery professionals.
- Contribute to the ongoing maturity of the wider delivery function.
- Represent the Technology function at relevant internal and external meetings.
- Complete required training and maintain relevant professional knowledge and qualifications.
- Follow all applicable organisational policies, procedures and standards.
- Handle personal and confidential information responsibly and in accordance with applicable data protection requirements.
- Work safely and responsibly, considering the wellbeing of colleagues, contractors and visitors.
- Undertake additional responsibilities where reasonably required to support business and departmental objectives.
Experience & SkillsDelivery Experience
- Significant experience leading complex technology and business change initiatives involving multiple teams.
- Demonstrable ownership of delivery outcomes at team, programme or portfolio level.
- Experience working in environments where priorities, dependencies and requirements can change rapidly.
- Strong knowledge of Agile principles, practices and delivery approaches.
- Ability to tailor Agile techniques pragmatically to different teams, products and organisational contexts.
- A track record of improving team effectiveness and delivery performance.
- Proven experience developing and coaching high-performing teams.
- Able to establish accountability while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Comfortable challenging existing practices and encouraging meaningful change.
- Experienced in working with senior business and technology stakeholders.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and differing perspectives.
- Able to provide clear recommendations and direction when required.
- Strong capability in delivery planning, forecasting, governance and reporting.
- Comfortable using delivery metrics and data to assess performance and communicate delivery confidence.
- Able to turn complex information into concise, actionable insight for leadership teams.
- Understands the commercial implications of technology and delivery decisions.
- Focuses on business outcomes and value rather than simply measuring activity or output.
- Able to balance scope, time, cost, risk and quality when making delivery decisions.
- Strong practical experience using Jira and Confluence, or comparable tools, to support delivery management, reporting and documentation.
- Proactive, credible and comfortable taking ownership.
- Outcome-focused, pragmatic and solutions-oriented.
- Confident operating in situations where there is ambiguity or competing demands.
- Demonstrates resilience, sound judgement and a willingness to challenge constructively.
- Naturally collaborative, with the ability to build effective relationships across different functions.
Experience within one or more of the following environments would be advantageous:
- E-commerce
- Retail
- Logistics or supply chain
- Other high-volume, customer-focused digital environments
