Wanted: Commercial & Contract Manager
Location: Derby
Salary: £57,500 £67,500 + Company Performance Bonus + Benefits
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience, qualifications and suitability for the role.
PDS is seeking an experienced Commercial & Contract Manager to support a portfolio of transportation and infrastructure technology projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Contracts Manager or commercial professional looking to broaden their experience within a business delivering technology-led solutions across the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Highways, Airports and Power sectors.
The role offers exposure to contract negotiation, NEC contract administration, commercial risk management, client and supply chain contract management, and payment mechanisms across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure technology projects.
This role is primarily office-based from our Derby office, with hybrid and flexible working available. Travel requirements are infrequent and generally limited to occasional client, supplier or project meetings.

Unlike traditional construction environments, youll gain exposure to a broad range of commercial and contractual activities while working closely with senior decision-makers across the business.
What the job entailsReporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with Directors and Project Managers across the business, you will provide commercial and contractual support throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Review, negotiate and advise on client contracts prior to acceptance.
- Identify and manage contractual and commercial risks.
- Draft, review and negotiate subcontract agreements.
- Administer client and subcontractor contracts throughout project delivery.
- Manage contractual change through NEC Early Warning and Compensation Event processes.
- Prepare, submit and negotiate quotations arising from contract changes and client instructions.
- Ensure contractual notices and communications are issued correctly and within required timescales.
- Prepare and manage client payment applications.
- Assess and manage supplier and subcontractor payment applications.
- Provide guidance on the interpretation and practical application of NEC contracts.
- Assist in the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
- Support commercial reporting, risk management and best practice across the business.
- Foster strong working relationships with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
You will be a commercially astute and highly organised individual with strong contract management, administration and negotiation skills, capable of operating across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Required skills & experience
- Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Law or equivalent practical experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable but not essential.
- Strong working knowledge and practical application of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
- Experience administering Compensation Events, Early Warning Notices and NEC payment mechanisms.
- Good understanding of contract law and the practical application of construction contracts.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating client and subcontract agreements.
- Strong commercial awareness and contract management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
- High level of competency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet demanding deadlines.
