Software Engineering - Software Engineer I

Location: Menlo Park, California (Remote)

COMPENSATION: $59- $69 HOURLY

Role Overview

We are seeking a software engineer to help build and evaluate Computer Use Agents (CUA), which are models trained to operate software and complete computer-based tasks. The role involves owning complex, long-running technical workflows from implementation to validation and documentation. You will design and maintain tasks, benchmarks, and test suites to measure CUA capability as the underlying models, APIs, and infrastructure evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Own complex technical workflows end-to-end, including implementation, validation, documentation, and follow-through.
• Design and maintain tasks, benchmarks, and test suites for CUA capability measurement.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, including writing tests and using deployment strategies like canary releases and rollbacks.
• Apply a strong sense of risk management to technical projects.
• Investigate discrepancies across code, configuration, infrastructure, and results within the CUA stack.
• Transform ambiguous findings into reproducible conclusions through strong debugging and experimental discipline.

Required Qualifications

• A strong interest in technology and high standards for code quality, including testing and deployment strategies.
• Familiarity with at least one AI coding assistant, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and developed best practices for its use.
• Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Rust, Python, or TypeScript.
• Ability to identify and address implementation weaknesses and provide direct feedback.
• Strong debugging and experimental discipline to investigate discrepancies and produce reproducible conclusions.
• Comfort with owning complex, long-running technical workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in server-side or infrastructure development, with a history of building highly available and stable systems.
• Developed communication skills for engaging with algorithm teams, product managers, operations, and executives.
• Experience with ML evaluation, distributed systems, developer infrastructure, or large-scale testing.
• Experience maintaining benchmarks or test suites while underlying models, APIs, and infrastructure evolve.
• Maintenance of personal open-source projects.
