Job Description
Role: Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Mossville, IL - Onsite |
Top Three Skill

2. Validation Testing: Hands-on experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) validation testing.
3. Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Technical Skills (Required):
Solid programming experience in C or C++.
Knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for components.
Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle (from systems analysis through testing and delivery).
Familiarity with development software related to embedded systems (e.g., SQL, VisualBasic).
Soft Skills (Required):
Problem-solving skills.
Customer service and interpersonal skills.
Basic ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve problems.
Apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of embedded software and systems. Research, design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for industrial, communications, and general computing applications.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment.
Write and code logical and physical database descriptions; specify identifiers to the management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
Analyze and enhance the efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources.
Review project requests describing user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish the project.
Contribution: Software strategy creation, optimization, and documentation for Caterpillar engine and aftertreatment systems.
Tasks: Engage with software programmers, mechatronics, and validation engineers to solve engine control challenges; develop and document software control strategies for internal customers.
Team Structure: Part of a 15-person team divided into engine subsystem ownership. You will be partnered with a mentor during the onboarding ramp-up period.
Interaction: Engine lab development activities, in-person meetings, and team huddles.
Environment: 90% office-based (for software development). Occasional work in soft labs (development benches) and engine test labs (requires PPE: safety glasses and boots).
